Getting a C in Nursing

Updated:   Published

I have seen it in a lot of posts so I just had to vent a little. Please stop making earning a C for your nursing class the end of world! It's not! Nursing classes are hard and while some may simply excel through them with As (by either brains or hard work...either way, awesome job! ) but there is no shame in simply passing. That will not make you less of a person or less of a nurse. Just realize what you did wrong and move on.

Always remember, there's always that person who failed who would love to be in your shoes. Just press on! We're all in this together!

**End of rant, thank you :thankya:

I been side stepping this thread so far, but what the heck.

Is it annoying to get a C when you are used to getting A's in your classes, yes. Do I jump on AN and complain about it no. I actually missed a B by .005% this semester, I got an 82.5%, 83% is a B at my school and they don't round. But it was my fault for failing to turn in a 5 point assignment, go figure. However I wouldn't throw a tantrum over it and drop out NS. I spent to much time and to much money to get to this point.

Do I think GPA is important? Yes. Because it is one things employers ask for here if you are a new grad, and yes I would like to go to grad school one day.

^^^^THIS

aint that the truth! i was 2 questions from a B in pharm and 1% away from an A in 101. it sucks! oh well there is always next semester!

Wow. C is such touchy subject. Well we are entitled to our opinion so, if you don't agree, don't say we're rude or nasty. Thank you "c" debaters.

I understand completely that grad school is difficult to get into, not just for nurses, but for anyone in general. However, I recall seeing a thread about someone who was just finishing their first semester & was so disheartened by one C, that they were contemplating dropping out of the nursing program all together. And that is what I thought was a little extreme.

I guess this was directed towards me

To some, a C is devastating, especially when coming into the program when your used to getting A's.

I saw a thread started by someone who got a C first semester for a 9 credit hr class, mind you this was their first semester...everyone was being positive, trying to give uplifting words of encouragement, but this person just shot down everyone's comments. This person was asking about withdrawing completely because of that one grade in the first semester. I saw people encouraging them to put their chin up and move on...to focus on what went wrong and make a plan to correct it. I didn't see anything wrong with that. But this person like I said kept shooting down everyone's words of encouragement.

It's hard to help someone that already has their mind made up. I don't even know why the person posted if they didn't want another opinion.

I didn't shoot everyone's comments down. The words of encouragement are appreciated and I read them all. I am not dropping out. It's not the fact that I got a C in the class that irks me the most, its the fact the class (its ONE class, not 2+classes in one semester) was worth 9 credit hours, while the rest of the entire program classes are 3 credit hours or under.

Big deal we also had one 6 sh class and knowing that I worked extra hard to amek sure I got an A in it. If something this small upsets you so much you're going to really have a hard time finishing any program let alone your associates then bsn and then CRNA. You will seriously encounter a million things that appear unfair, ridiculus, or wrong and really need to take responsibilty for what is your fault and learn to get over what isn't and move on because thats life and thats especially life if you want to graduate and you evidently will have many more years of school for your chosen career.

Nolander-

Hang in there! My fundamentals class was 5 credit hrs...it consisted of 50 mins of lecture, 2 hrs and 50 mins of lab and 8 hrs of clinical time a week.

You can pick up your GPA!

Good luck :)

I've got a 3.3 and one class left before I graduate from nursing school...Grad school, here I come! LOL

My GPA has fallen from a 4.0 to a 3.58, and I have been getting B's in my nursing courses and A's in my one extra class I take each semester (2 semesters). I am hoping it doesn't fall much more lol because I am hoping to go on to a graduate program as well.

So I am wondering does a getting a C "bone" you in regards to summer externships? From what I have found so far most places want/strongly require nothing lower than a "B" in nursing classes. Does one have a realistic shot at getting an externship with C's, is it even worth applying?

The externship I participated in looked at overall GPA and not just individual grades in your Nursing courses.

Getting a C is absolutely horrible and many have good reason to complain! In my program a C is a FAIL! We must have at least an 80% (B-) in order to even pass the class.....so maybe these people are in the same situation :) Also like many people have wrote, in order to get into the grad program I am looking into we must have AT LEAST a 3.5 minimum G.P.A to even apply.
80 is a C for us. I had an early nursing class and was sitting at a 78/79 I was sweating it big time!
