I am still working on my pre-req classes, so I am debating on whether or not to start trying for baby #2 now or after I finish school. I am thinking now just because I have a 2 year old and I want them to be close in age, also I doubt I could handle the smells and standing all day during clinicals being pregnant. I THINK I can handle school being pregnant and I really don't want to wait until after I get out of Nursing school because I would just be starting a new job, and wouldn't want to be planning my maternity leave already. Anyone think this is not such a good idea? I am not sure! I don't want to get this far into school and then have to quit (but I hopefully wouldnt have to quit...)

WAIT WAIT WAIT!! Lol....I had the same thoughts. I wanted 1 more..and planned the baby to be 1 year old when I started clinicals.
I planned how long I would work, when I'd start putting most of my checks into savings etc...
I found out at 26 weeks I was having twins. A week later I went into preterm labor and was yanked out of work. At 31 weeks I went into labor again. THe meds they put me on were HORRIBLE...I couldn't study. I was on bedrest, and taking meds that made me shake, and meds that made me so tired I couldn't think. I failed anatomy. Then...when I was doing clinicals..I had 1 year old twins at home with my 3 year old. It cost a ton in child care..and was exhausting.
Even if you don't have twins..you just never know what will happen with a pregnancy.

I agree. There is just too much work to do with school to deal with the added stress of a pregnancy.

I've been questioning the same thing. My child just turned 5 and I want another one. The two schools that I am trying to get into, I can't get in until 2009 so I'm going for it. If I wait until 2011 (graduation), my kid would be 9. I've been trying for the past 2 months and no luck. If I don't get pregnant by January then I'll just hold off.

WOW!! I was expecting people to think it was a good idea! Now I REALLY have a lot to think about. UGH it is so hard because my body is saying "BABY NOW!!!!" You know, I have the "baby fever" and I can't stop thinking about babies. So it will be hard to think logically, but you two make a very good point, I guess you forget how hard it is being pregnant and how EXTREMELY tired you get. I guess it would be hard to work full time, then have to get back in the car and go to school every night.
Hard decision.:smackingf:innerconf

I'd wait. My husband and I are waiting for a while. I think he's frustrated but I know in my heart it's the right decision.

Now I regret it.

The truth is we can't make your decision for you. We can only tell you our own experiences and you are bound to get many different opinions here.
You have to do what will work for your family.
For me, I don't believe in day care so I chose to stay home with my older children. I went back to school for another career (nursiing) when my youngest (out of 3) was in 1st grade and my mom lived with us and could pick them up from school. I was always home shortly after they got home.
After becoming a nurse, my husband and I had a surprise baby. I had to go back to work when he was 4 months old but I worked part-time only and he stayed with my wonderful inlaws at their ranch. They would bring him to me a couple of times a day to nurse.
I will only work part-time. I did work full-time when I was preggers (3 a.m to 3 p.m) and actually did a lot of overtime. It was very hard. If I could go back, I would never have done that.
But my experience is unique to me. I cannot tell you what choice to make .. . .which I kinda did on my prior post. Which I take back. You take into consideration all the responses to your inquiry and then do what is best for your family.
Best wishes!

I think it depends from student to student. I couldn't handle it, but many of my classmates have had children while in the nursing program. One fellow classmate actually has 12 children at home (mixed family) and is doing really well in school. If you think you can do it you probably can.

This is my first semester in nursing. I have thought about having 2nd child. My daughter turned 2 last friday. I can't believe she had grown. I won't be able to finish school in spring of 09. It is very hard for me to wait that long.
I do believe that I should wait until i am finish with nursing school, so i don't have to deal with more stresses that i have now.
