Best books for me:
Lippincott Manual of Nursing
Professional Guide to Diseases by Springhouse
Flip n See EKG (love the cheat-sheet that comes with it!)
Tip: get a book on either assertiveness or workplace bullying because this is one of the harsher realities for newbies. We always take it personal and we only learn with experience that it's not us. Unless you read a book.

I think that workplace bullying is a good book for newbies. :) Or anyone in the workforce:)
I agree Springhouse Diseases is a great book. I also like the "Incredibly easy series" (The dummies book for nurses) like "ECG interpretation made incredibly easy."
The best tip I ever got was from one of my instructors she said "Listen to the little voice"
Translation , If something in the back of your mind says your pt. is in trouble you need to act! It does not matter if you have labs, abgs, or peers to back you up . If you know in your heart something is not right ACT ON IT !!!

The books on assertiveness are nice to read, but taking a class on assertivness is even better! You get to interact with others...playing out certain scenarios with each other so you get the real feel of what's to come for you in the workforce. :kiss
when i was in lpn school, there were several doctors, nurses other co-workers( i worked as an nursing assistant in a clinic and after school, as an lpn), friends, and family members who helped me in many ways.
i am looking forward to sharing my ups and downs with my new found friends, others and my family and will have a learning spirit from those who wish to share with me their knowledge and open arms for those who will give their support.

i don't know about everyone else, but i always seek the advice of my friends and family when it comes to school stuff.
anything from where to buy books, what books to buy, what's the best shoes, scopes, best/worst experiences, tips for studying, tips for being a nurse after graduation, etc, etc.
SO FAR, what has been the best advice/tip you have received and from whom?
for me, it was a student nurse that just graduated this past june. she gave me the tip of the nursing care plan book by m. doegnes. even though the instructors loved my care plans (never received an unsatisfactory) it was not public student knowledge that this book existed. i'm ever so grateful for erin recommending this to me as it saved me time plus gave me valuable information to complete my assignments.
