Stump the Corporate Nurse

  1. Hi,
We are preparing for survey so, of course, people from corporate have decided to decend upon us to "make us better" overnite! Well any was with our quaterly assessments we have to do a bowel and bladder evaluation(each one is seperate). One of the questions is "do they take Vit.C?' My question is how does this imact bladder contience? Corp. nurse had no idea (and it is their silly form)? Does any one know the answer? I would like to know the answer Monday AM when she shows up.

Vit C will assist with acidifying the urine, to prevent and/or treat common bladder infections. Although, too much Vit C may lead to stones since it can form crystals. [Was told this by a MD when I was on a megadose Vit C kick]

Not sure if this is the type of information you are looking for.

Vitamin C is also a diuretic.

Vitamin C, along with the other water soluble b vitamins will lead to increased urination of the unused portion (we can only absorb about 300 mgs Qday). It also acidifes the urine.

Could you post a source or two which says Vit. C is a diuretic? I know it's water soluable and we excrete what we don't use, but does it actually promote diuresis?

Didn't know the answer to your question but I love the title to your thread. To go along with it, there's "Be Gone When the Surveyors Are In the House" or "Make Your Co-Worker Look Stupid". We actually had a nurse go into great detail one time telling all of us how her friends set another nurse up to look like a fool in front of the surveyors. Unfortunately not only was he the butt of their prank, he was immediately fired. Good luck on your survey.

    That's terrible!

Some of my coworkers do not need help in the "look stupid" dept. They are doing a fine job all on their own!. One nurse told an MD that we did not offer special diets(diabetic in particular)!!!
