I have seen state inspectors show up on day and eve shifts. Has anyone ever heard of the state showing up on noc shift to do an inspection? Thanks

As a LTC care manager, I once received a frantic call from the noc shift nurse at 0530 on an icy Sunday morning: the survey team had just walked in the front door.

So, in one word, the answer to your question is YES! :uhoh21:

They got us this year at 0400 on a Monday morning and they came out fighting. I've heard of other times when they've hit on night shift as well. 0400 is the earliest I've heard of. Once they came in on us at 0600, but that time they had a conference first and it was day shift by the time they came out of their rally.

the way i understand it, they are required to do a certain percentage on an "off shift". i have worked in ltc for about 10 years and have never had it happen. but then again...never say never!!!

I want them to come at noc...

I love the way this looks....Everyone moving the in one movement.

Sorry, I don't know, personally...but I see others say they do come at night. Ours' came at 0800 a.m. and stayed 4 long days.

Yes, they certainly do. Be prepared for visit at any hour of the day or night.

:) Thanks everyone for your messages. I am thinking of looking for a noc shift position in August and was wondering if I would ever have any "state visitors" in the middle of the night. Yes it looks like I might. :o

They have never started a survey on the night shift yet, But they always come in at least one morning early to view peri care, med pass etc. The night shift alwaays dreads it.

They came to our facility on a Sunday! I never had heard of them working weekends!! They seem to enjoy suprising people.

:rotfl: :) :chuckle Not before like 5:00 am. These are government employees who are not about to go out of their way unless they absolutly have to. They know that noc hours are 11pm until 7:30 am so if they show up at 5 am or 6 am they meet the requirement for checking out the noc shift. They are no more willing to roll up there sleeves and to knock them selves out for the elderly then the owners of the facilities are. Once in a while an administrator or DON will just to catch the staff in the act. Most buildings are locked up at night and the inspectors have to go beating the door down to get in which puts the staff on alert (wakes them up for sure).
