4560 Gerentology Fall 13

I'm taking this course starting August 26th, anyone with me?

I struggled with this paper. To keep the wording down (on the literature review) I briefly wrote about the 5 articles and then summarized how they applied to QAPI. Mine came to exactly 5 typed pages not including title page and references. Did you cite QAPI? If so, how did you do it?

OH C#*P, I forgot that. I guess since it was 2am, my brain was fried. Point deduction coming my way...

Yes I am certain you should cite it., how?...hmmm: I'm pretty sure Centers for Medicare and Medicaid was the author, see if you can find it on their web site. cite OU as the retrieved from. That's how I would do it.

Any one else have ideas?

Thanks cincinursemary!

So I got my DB from week one graded 9/10. 1 point was taken off with the comment, "Do not ever use direct quotes. In the future please paraphrase". Has anyone every heard anything like this before???

Backtothebeach, are you kidding me! I use direct quotes all the time but make sure I cite correctly and use the page number. Who the heck is your TA? Where does it say you cannot use direct quotes?

Yep, only used 2 quotes in the entire DB, everything was cited correctly etc. Could not believe it, this is one of my last nursing classes and have never heard anything like this. Nowhere does it say you cannot use direct quotes! I am floored....

Then I would call her on it. My TA when I took this class dinged me on correct citations. I called her on it and she said "oh I will change your grade" Ask her where it says you cannot direct quote. Were the quotes over 40 words?

Nope, they were like 1 small sentence quotes 7-10 words. I'm not going to make waves for 1 point. Her comments were extremely complimentary on the post, it was just that one thing she took off on, so I will see how it goes. From what I heard questioning everything will just make them grade it harder :(

Remember, 1 point sometimes can determine whether you get an A or a B. If I am wrong in my citations I will admit it, if not I will dispute it. I disputed mine twice in this class and won. The TA clearly did not know what she was doing.

you're right, and also she is going to take off for the same thing on my week one paper...I guess the entire class will be losing a point since everyone does this lol!

I got the same comment about not using direct quotes. I am as shocked as you! However, she did not take off any points and told me this for future postings. I wish I would have known before I submitted my paper. I will probably get dinged. Although, I have read in previous class announcements that direct quotes should be used very rarely. (just never saw it enforced)

Ok, I just looked at my discussion board posts and think I figured out why she did not take off a point for direct quoting. I paraphrased for each reference except one. The one I quoted contained specific statistics. Believe me, this was by chance. I am usually the quote queen.
