Specializes in MICU/Postpartum.

Thanks, I don't think I have enough posts to send messages. Let's see if this one counts.

KatyGSU,

I recently completed my CPR class through a company called Safety and Health Solutions. The class is AHA certified and you receive your AHA CPR card at the end of the class. The class wasn't very long. It lasted about 5 hrs, but it was alot of fun. They offer a lot of opportunities to take the class. Hope this helps.

Thanks pure serenity- I ended up taking a course through GA CPR and got the AHA certification. The first few contacts on the list supplied by the nursing website fell through for one reason or another, so I was curious who others were going with but ended up googling for a resource. Finishing up my checklist to turn in by the end of the month and still completely excited ( and a bit nervous) about starting in a few months.

KatyGSU: Glad that you got it done. I ended up doing mine at GSU over maymester. I was able kill two birds with one stone--I got my CPR cert and it also went towards the 6 hours that I am required to have for summer semester in order to get financial aid. :D Are you close to being done with your "to do list"? I'm still working on mine...slowly but surely. I'll be thrilled to have it done!!

And I'm a bit nervous too. I'm trying to prepare myself for the heavy load and the time away from the people that I love...that's actually the part that makes me most nervous. Especially the time away from my little boy. But I know that it will all be worth it in the end and that we'll all have a great time. I'm soooo excited to meet my classmates!!!!

How are the rest of you guys? I hope that everyone is having a great summer!!!! :)

i completely understand the concern about spending time away from the family due to the heavy course load the ace program demands. i have a one year old and i try to make sure in between finishing my last pre reqs that i don't miss a moment. while at the doctors, i ran into a recent gsu ace grad that had young children. her best advice was to make time for both. she would set a timer for about two hrs and explain to her kids once the timer went off, she would play with them. although, this would not work with my young son, i try to limit my study time to when he is sleeping. and if i can, make a game out of some of my study questions. that way i can study and play at the same time.

right now, i'm trying to finish completing the check off list, i think i have 1 thing left, and get ahead start on fall. i bought all the books except for 3 and hoping i can get a copy of the syllabus from someone in the ace program so i can start reading. i am hoping after reading some of the post from mirashu, that i can transition into fall easily.

if anyone else has any advice about how to deal with the first semester, please share?

mirashu

i really appreicate all your post. after reading your posts, i went from extremely anxious to regular level of anxiousness with a little nervousness

Hey guys!

I promise to post something soon about what chapters to read and return e-mails about syllabus' that people want. Summer semester has been lots of work, but I hope to have some time to make a post in the near future. For the meantime, i suggest looking over pharmacology and the prototype drugs and doing the study guide. Oh yeah, the review and rationals books for pharm, patho, and other classes are not listed in suggested books, but are super helpful. Here's an example: http://www.amazon.com/Prentice-Hall-Reviews-Rationales-Pharmacology/dp/0132437104/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307628924&sr=8-1. I'll make a list of the study guide i thought were helpful, but for sure the reviews and rationals books is something the upperclassmen recommend to me. Also, the study guide that goes with the pharm book and the study guide that goes with the main patho book.

Hope that helps!

Mirashu, I am unable to contact you privately because I don't have enough posts yet, but you could e-mail me about the ACE program? I am pulling my hair out over all the options!

Really appreciate it

Hi everyone !I just recently discovered this website. I love it. I am glad you all got accepted. I was also accepted. GPA: 3.99 and Teas 87... I am longing to meet all of you come fall. Can anyone plz send me the list of spring books. Mirashu, would you please send me the syllabus info? pleaaaazzzeee???? Thank you.. Here is my email: [email protected]... God bless u all!!!

I received an 'ease-your-nerves' email from the nursing department today which did exactly as intended. I'm close to completing all the requirements; however of course there is one that's causing me to run into walls. That is the flu shot. I know Angela gave us a reprieve and extended the wait to have the fall vaccine. However, I was wondering if anyone knew of a place where I could get one now. Any suggestions?

I got mine from the Student Health Clinic. Also, the DeKalb County Board of Health has them (or at least they did when I called 2 or 3 weeks ago). I was finally able to turn my packet in last Friday and it was a total relief!! Now I just need to order uniforms, buy shoes, get a stethoscope, pay ATI, and buy half a million books. Oh, my poor aching wallet!!!! ;)

@ ggallo: The Walgreens on Piedmont and North had a huge sign out today that they had flu shots (odd to see during the summer).

I turned in my packet a couple of weeks ago and just got the uniform and stethoscope on my birthday. It was honestly as exciting as any gift to open. I have the spring list of books and am expecting to study a bit before the beginning of the semester. I noticed that some classes have four or five books with only one being required, the rest being optional or highly suggested. Can anyone that has already been through the first semester (ACE) let me know what their experience has been with this list? Did you actively use all the books listed (or would have if you had the time)and would suggest it? Thanks in advance.
