Georgia Highlands College Waiting Game!

Published

Hopefully, we are getting close to hearing something. I wanted to start a new thread and see if anyone wanted to play the waiting game for fall ADN Program. We've been waiting since April 1st and it's about time we heard something.:anbd:

Thanks for all of the amazing info. I have to say that I really enjoy this forum b/c it's been a huge help in me finding out anything I could possibly want to know about nursing. I don't know anyone at highlands b/c I am a transfer student and it's good to have insight into what the program is like. I have to say that I haven't heard a bad piece of advice yet and I am taking notes!

i know wat you mean! I iwsh i would have found this website and a forum like it before i started nursing school!

Thank you so much prern ashley!! I feel a little bit better!! I just hope that we ALL get in!! We seem to all click well:)

I just love it when students who are/have been in the nursing program at GHC post info on here! I'm like a kid in a candy store sucking up all I can get. hehe

Thanks PreRN...... All of the info/advice is welcome and much appreciated! Do you remember what the hours/schedule was like your first semester? How far did you end up having to drive for your clinicals?

I'm going to try really hard to be patient this week. The "board" is supposed to be meeting this week to decide who gets in. So, it can't be that much longer.

Does anyone know which day the board is meeting???:grn:

Dallas.... They didn't tell me what day they were meeting. I think I'll just make myself believe that it will be today!!!! :D Maybe .....just maybe.....if they meet today.....acceptance letters might just be ready by the end of the week.

Ok...ok....I know I'm in my own little dreamland. hehe

HopeforMelissa, that o.k. I live in dreamland too. I am so excited to find out something.I thought that they might meet today or tomorrow. Then I was hoping the packets are already prepared and they just have to stick our names on them. I was just hoping that was the case, so the letters make it out this week!!!!! Yippeeeeeeee!

oooooooh to be a psychic.... :thnkg:

Monday and Thursday you got to school from 9am to 12pm and Tuesday and Wednesday are the long days when you go from 9-4.

clinicals range from gordon to rome to carrolton. It all depends on what is available. i live in cartersville and had to drive all the way to carroloton becasue i drew one of the last numbers.

you have to take what you can get.

the background checks and the marietta stuff all happens after you get your acceptance letters. so those are not reasons for the longer than usual wait.

mthibaud....

You just don't know how much I appreciate the info you gave us! I'm sure you remember what it's like not knowing what to expect. Were you able to work during your first semester at all? If so, how much?

I'm also interested in the clinical part of it. Did they use your student ID number and the "lottery system" to determine your clinical site?

Do you think that of those people that did not progress to the next semester because of grades just did not put in the study time and take it seriously? Or are there other factors involved in their failure?

Overall, do you like the program? Tell me it is all worth it.

HOPE FOR MELISSA:

I did work, i do also believe that it is what caused me to not do as well as i could have. I'm not working this time around.

The Clinicals are not done by your student id. You pick a ticket, kinda like one of those tickets you get at the fair. Then they line you up from starting number to ending number. The first number gets first choice and so on until the last person has chosen. so it is basically a luck of the draw type of thing. they only have about 8 slots per location/day so if you get one of the last numbers (as i did) you get to pick from the locations and days that no body else wanted. That is how i got stuck with Carrollton.

annnnd no. the reason i didn't get to the next level is not becasue of how much i didn't study. i studied A LOT, however my brain didn't get the "nursing" way to study. It is not just about the study time. It is about how your brain process information, how you go about solving problems, how you think logically. Just becasue you study doesn't mean you will pass. I had friends who stayed after every day and would study all the time yet they too are reapplying with me. I know ppl who got 93's on some test and still ended up failing. Every person is different.

Only you can decide if it is all worth it. For me it is, if it wasn't i would not be reapplying. I know several students who, after this semester, just said "nursing is not for me, i would rather teach or do dyntal hygene" There are several things about the program and GHC i hate, i don't feel they have sufficent lab time, or lab check off's. There are schools where you get a better hands on experience. It all depends on what you want to get from the program. I would read about other schools program and how people talk about those and just compare, if you're worried about that.

I live in Dreamland with you guys. As far as I'm concerned they're addressing envelopes right now. lol. :[anb]:
