Stay away. Not sure even where to begin. So you get into this school and you think its great, it's Georgetown! So prestigious! :bookworm: There is a lot of work with this program compared to other schools and at the end of the day you get the same degree. :nurse: And other schools are cheaper!

1. GU lets you think that they are helping you find clinical sites, WRONG! Mid-way through our last semester they made us sign a contract stating that if we do not have a clinical site then we cannot proceed in the program. And there is another policy where if they find one for you they cannot release that information until 2 weeks before that clinical starts. So how am I suppose to register for classes?

2. OCI. On Campus Intensive. What a mess! You have to travel to GU twice during the course of the program. It is called OCI. I went to my first one and it was a joke. We got there and they did not have any of the paper work ready (It was not a surprise that we were coming) They blamed it on the printer acting up. Well when it happened a couple of times... I am sure it was the person not the printer! They scare you about the practical exam and start teaching you a bunch of new techniques the day before the exam. That was a mess too because one teacher was saying one thing and another said something else. We did not have access to the internet but they were emailing us stuff (What they could not just tell us in person?) Oh and if we wanted access to it we had to pay. (75,000 isn't already enough to pay?) They did not have our "Go cards" ready, it was the "printer" guys fault with that one too. The last day was a terror. When we were expressing our concerns, a GU rep started to reprimand us telling us "that may have been what we heard, but that is NOT what she said". So very rude! We were also expected to dress professionally but the Dean of the University shows up in jeans and a sweater, does not even tell us who he is, to apologize for how everything is going. That was nice but it was not until I asked around and found out it was the dean, why did he not show up during the welcome talk, in a suit? Guess he was too busy with all my tuition money to show up for that.

Am I getting across here? I am writing this to save you from heart-ache and grief. Do not attend Georgetown, go somewhere else where the tuition is cheaper and you can still have your sanity. :roflmao:

Plus they will start hounding during the initial application process! Calling you to make sure you send all your info in. At first I thought this was nice, they must really care. I assure you they do not.

I went to Georgetown for undergrad and had a pretty miserable experience. Awful facilities, lots of extra requirements to pay for this and that along the way, extraordinarily rigorous experience. Lots or promises made to students that never came through. I don't think a single person in my class will every give Georgetown 1 cent as an alumni, we all hated that place. However, one thing I'll say is that I was definite prepared when I got out.

That said, I am surprised that the Georgetown name carries that much weight in out-of-town settings. Locally, it does not.

I have to say that my classmates and I are thoroughly impressed by Georgetown. I just came back from campus and I agree that OCI was extremely organized and well-detailed. There must have been five pages of the schedule alone! To the OP, I feel bad you went through what you went through and as a cohort that started after you, thank you for your evaluations so that we had a great OCI. They obviously took the evaluations very seriously.

I can speak for myself when I say that the education that I am receiving is really top notch and worth it. I spent seven years and three universities to receive my Bachelors alone, so believe me when I say this education is legit. Sure there may be higher ranked programs, but there are not many of them. (Darn our #21 nationally ranked spot!) The fact that across the nation, people recognize the reputation of Georgetown speaks volumes, where locally I can see how you're just another Hoya. But that doesn't take away the fact you come out of this program, fully prepared to rock!

I'm glad you like the program. It looks and sounds like a solid experience. I'd take what most people say on here with a grain of salt. The fact that this website has more negative comments against reputable, recognized prestigious schools like Georgetown than for profit diploma mills like Walden should tell you something.

Am here to drum in support for Georgetown FNP, not that they need it anyway. Their admission rate is around 13-16%. So yeah, there are a lot of people trying to get in and can't. I am so privileged to have gotten the opportunity to go to GU. The professors are very supportive. My first OCI was well organized and am waiting to go to my second OCI in two weeks. I can't wait. I am a local HOYA and everyone I tell I go to Georgetown tells me it's a prestigious university. Am two semesters away from graduation and I already have two job offers in the 6 figure salary range. All because I was prepared enough by GU to shine through my clinical rotations. GU is definitely good value for money. I do not disagree that the university is very expensive......But having a job right after graduation compared with looking for a job for six months on average will offset the high tuition paid. Georgetown ranks highly on returns on investment.

2015,

Glad you had such a good experience! I'm in the process of applying for the next cohort of FNP's right now. Would you mind telling us what part of the country you're in that you've gotten such impressive job offers? How much of those offers do you think are due to being a GU grad versus just an impressive person from any school?

Thanks!

2015,

I would love to know more about your experience at Georgetown. I am finishing up my application for the Fall 2015 part-time FNP program (applying early as I finish up my RN to BSN program).

I know Georgetown's program is rigorous, but I was wondering if you could give me an idea how many hours you worked during the program and how many hours you spent studying/writing papers? I will be working 2 -10 hour shifts per week and have two kids (5 and 8). Is this program doable with these work hours? Any insight you can offer would be wonderful!

RN2bNP,

Have you heard back from GU? I also applied for the Fall 2015 part-time FNP program, and will graduate in May with my BSN.

Congrats on your acceptance Kayla95!!

No news yet other than my application is being reviewed by faculty as of Friday. I'm not getting my hopes up though. GTU puts a lot of weight on previous science courses and although my grades are very good and I have a lot of experience, I have a feeling my ADN and RN- BSN program won't meet their science requirements. I would LOVE to be accepted, but I'm also very realistic. I have applied to another program as well. Fingers crossed that at least one of them works out!

I don't think you know what you are talking about. GU is an amazing school. They found our clinical placements and the OCI was just so amazing! Go to GU. YOU will NOT regret it!!
