Hi simoniebalonie, thanks for your offer to answer questions! I will start at GW in January, and I have tons of questions! What are clinicals like during the first semester? Where have your clinicals been held so far? In your opinion, it is worth purchasing the recommended textbooks? With the course load & clinicals, do you feel like you are studying every second? What kind of nursing shoes are required? Thanks so much for any advice or information you can share!

Hi Kay7,
The first semester you will have one clinical/week (long-term care for 4 weeks then med/surg clinical for 6 weeks). Common clinical locations: Inova Fairfax/Fairoaks/Alexandria, Prince William, GWU hospital, VHC. I would recommend waiting to see if you really need your textbook when school starts. I recommend getting the med/surg book for sure. I didn't really use my pharm, transition, or health assessment book (but, I think it will depend on who's teaching). As for workload, I would say classwork and studying accumulated at least 90% of my time during the first two semesters. Then, it gets lighter in the summer and your last semester. We were required to have all white nursing shoes for clinical.
Hi Simoniebalonie!!
Thank you so much for offering help. I just got accepted this morning and got an interview for the W2 program!! I am just trying to figure out the location of the school and if you think having a car is necessary. Also, are the majority of clinicals in the DC area? From my understanding, classes will be 45 minutes outside of the city. If that is the case, would you recommend the Loudoun Heights apartments?
Thank you so much!
Erika
