Well....in my program you take a test and must get a 75 to pass.....if you fail you get one retake. If you fail it.....you are out......this is on every test. Retake for test 1 was today and we lost two students that could not pass it. We have had two drop for personal reasons....one a bad break-up and one problem pregnancy....so we have lost four already and school just started on the 9th of January. Whew.....gotta get to studying!

That's about how it goes...Is this the first semester? We started with 70something and about 36 finished. Now we have 16 left of our original 70something. It's amazing.

Wow. I believe our program used to be like that up until a few years ago, but I think the school threw a hissy fit over the graduating numbers so now if you fail, you have all quarter to make it up. But, usually, if a student is borderline, they know if they are going to make it to the end of the quarter or not.

We have a math (calculations) test on Friday and if you don't get 90% you get 3 retries - if you still can't get 90% you're out. Personally, I don't think there should be retries...this isn't rocket science. (watch, now that I've complained I'll mess up)
Next semester and until graduation you have to get 100%. Seems reasonable to me - since we're talking patient's lives here!

wish we had the luxury of retesting!

Do you people who don't get retries have to make a 75 on EVERY test or just maintain a certain average during the whole semester... Cause that makes a BIG difference

I haven't started clinicals yet but there a number of nursing students in my A&PII class. I heard some of them talking last week. Appartently, there was a nursing student in my A&P class and it was her first semester, first clinical. She went to clinical, stuck it out the whole day, didn't have too much of a problem, went home and then quit the program completely. Dropped Nursing, A&P and everything else.

Lets see..started with 40...lost 2...that left 38...lost 4, but gained 5....that leaves us with 39. I'm sure we'll lose some more before next year (last year). They've told me that med/surg II is very hard so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will make it through the rest of this year and finally be a SENIOR!!!!

We don't get retries on the test, but we only need an overall average of 78 in the class. So we're allowed to have a bad test score as long as the overall average is 78 or higher---however, anyone that scores below 78 on the test automatically has to make an appointment with the instructor to figure out why they did not do well.
I believe we've lost only one student so far...he's been missing for the last 5 days & has missed the math exam. I don't think he'll be back. We have two more men on the verge of dropping/failing out because of the math for meds exam. We do get 3 tries to pass that with a 90 or better. They have failed the first two times....one more to go. The women all seem to be doing well though.
We have one girl that brings her laptop to class to type out the notes, then emails us a copy. That is a luxury! After 6 hours of writing, my handwriting isn't the easiest to interpret. :)
