  1. You are absolutely right.
  2. No I didnt do a nero check. I should have. I didnt buy the whole flushing the pads down the toliet either and I asked the officers if she was able to do that and they said she shouldnt be. Thanks for the response and advise!
  3. I am a new nurse and have been working at a correctional facility since the end of August. When I respond to an inmate complaining of something I get nervous on how to handle a situation. Well maybe not nervous but lack of confidence. All the nurses say dont let them pull one over you and I try to keep that in mind when I visit the cells. Like lastnight I had a female saying she was bleeding to death (lady partslly) I did all her VS all WNL, good skin tugor, cap refill
  4. Yes, Supplemental places in correctional and per diem traveling nurses based out of colorado springs, CO
  5. This is SO very true. I have been at my job for a month at a LTC since I graduated and was scared of a code blue but I just acted out of instinct and did my duty as a nurse
  6. Great way to remember that. I learned now since I have done it for a few days but that is a wonderful way to learn it. In nursing school they did teach us to always have 2 nurses present to draw up the insulin but not to admin. I went to school in Colorado but in TX they do not follow that process.
  7. Ok another question regarding heparin. We got a new resident that req. heparin but I remember in nursing school they said that was a red flag drug and labs should be checked and I looked in his chart and there were no lab draws done. Can someone let me know how that works? Should daily labs be drawn? I did not feel safe giving the med so I did not and I let my preceptor know (I am still in training). Suzanne, are you an instructor? You are or would be a great one;)
  8. :balloons: Yea congrats!!! :balloons:
  9. Our pharm calc book had a practice CD in it and I would practice on that and I would just do a search online for practice pharmacology calculations questions. Good luck on your finals
  10. Wow this was posted back in 2004 & I am done with LPN school now!!! Maybe that site is no longer available it has been awhile since it was posted. I tried the site and it did not work for me either.
  11. Thank you again very much for your response!!
  12. Suzanne, Thank you so much! That is what I was taught in nursing school but not what was done at work. I guess I just needed to hear it from someone else the right way. Do you know what will happen if anything if they gave NPH & regular in seperate injections at the same time?? Sorry I am a new nurse and I have so many questions. Being a student nurse and working nurse is so different.:uhoh21:

I need verification on insulin. If a resident has an order of 18 units of NPH at 4:30 and a sliding scale at 4:30 for regular (lets just say they needed 6 units) do you pull them up in the same needle or seperate needles? I am a new nurse and I was taught one thing in nursing school and saw it done different in the LTC so I just wanted to double check how other nurses do this. Thanks!
  14. :yelclap: :yelclap: GOOD FOR YOU!!! :yelclap: :yelclap: KEEP US POSTED!!!
