Classes start tomorrow. Barring not being able to find the syllabus for the lab (it wasn't in the packet we had to buy) and as a result not being able to figure out what is due for the first lab on Tuesday, I'm more excited than not. I'll ask about the syllabus tomorrow I guess. I just wanted a head start on the assignment, since they told us about it at orientation. I was just overly confused and figured I'd look it up on the syllabus later...which...I do not have LOL.

Went out with a few of the nurses as work for breakfast this morning after our shift. I love these gals. They put up with me and my shenanigans. And they are very supportive. Had a patient tell me I was smart last night and that I should go to nursing school. Not sure how he got I was smart from "let's stand up and pee. I will help you". But hey, thanks dude!

I think I'm more nervous about the little guy in preschool. He's my baby. He can't be big enough for preschool! And I'm having some mommy guilt about not homeschooling him for prek like I did his older siblings, but he's SOOOOOOOO excited about preschool that I can't feel too guilty. He's in his bed giggling right now instead of sleeping. Heehee.

Well, here's to a new semester and the first of finally getting a move on toward my new career. Good luck to everyone else starting tomorrow! We got this! Let's go!

Good luck!

What classes do you have this semester?

Specializes in Peds PACU & Peds Psych.

Good luck! I had my first class last Friday. It was so exciting!

Nursing process is our first unit. It's a program so there are no distinct classes. Just different units of focus. I'm told by multiple sources it's the best nursing program around so I'm good with no classes haha!

Good luck!! I start in 2 weeks. So excited

Specializes in Med/Surg, ER, LDRP.

Halfway through my first day now. Pinch me! It hasn't quite hit me yet

Finally home. I have 145 pages and quizzes due on those pages for tomorrow. I'm a little overwhelmed as I just realized something. I'm a pretty fast reader, but I have never skimmed anything in my life because I'm scared I will miss something. Now I'm all "I can't skim this cuz what if I miss something important?" haha. This is going to take some adjusting and possibly learning how to speed read or something. I don't even know how to skim and take effective notes. Barring that, it's pretty exciting, but any tips on how to injest this info is appreciated.

I feel your pain. On my first day, they dumped several chapters of reading on us, had us sign up for our first community service project (at a kidney disease awareness fundraiser, taking blood pressure and running labs), gave us rubrics for several writing assignments, gave us the access codes for our ATI quizzes that are due, etc. We were all just sitting there staring at our instructors wildly with disbelief. Haha. It's gonna be a bumpy, but amazing, ride.

Specializes in Primary Care; Child Advocacy; Child Abuse; ED.

I am kind of scared for tomorrow. I am usually a great student and have the same problem with needing to read everything. We were assigned 6 chapters today (online syllabus), it became a over whelming lot. We are not even at the first day of class. Which is tomorrow:) I can not wait!!! :w00t:

I'm the exact opposite - I've always been a speed reader (well, at least since I learned to read) and I naturally skim and get the jist that way. Wee were assigned 30 chapters of reading before we head back on Monday and I've been feeling like that's soooo much. I cannot possibly retain that much just by casual summer reading, but we havent starters class yet so I don't know what to focus on. Fun fun.

Glad you had a good first day!

Ok I was wrong. It was 450 pages last nighT and three quizzes. Another 200 for lecture, plus a video and another at least 200 for clinical and three more quizzes. This 400 pages looks like a nightly occurrence. I'm somewhat overwhelmed and not sure how to restructure my study time in order to take effective notes and learn the material.

Wow! I don't start until sept 10 and we have a summer reading assignment which I've already done (I actually read the chapters a few times), but after reading your post I think I should just get started on reading the entire book. Yikes, that's a lot. I'm a good reader also but if I'm reading at night I tend to nod off. Good luck to you!!
