  1. You could sell your computer?? lol thats all i got
  2. Hey students, I want to ask those who know already. What do your clinical schedules look like? I signed up for classes last night and decided to do 5 classes first semeseter (all afternoon or morning classes) and 3 the second semester (all evening). That way instead of paying for daycare, and then a babysitter 3 days a week, I could just pay a babysitter when I need them. So are clinicals a weekly thing? Twice a week? two weeks on two off? Are there classes running at the same time as clinicals? How does it work? (typicallly, I'm sure all schools are different.)
  3. Gosh, i love this forum. I came on to ask if i should purchase my stethoscope now, as I found a good retailer of them in my home town, and ill be visiting there next week, or if i should hold off. Well a PP just answered that for me. Thanks! And of course now i have other stuff i forgot....thanks lol
  4. Ha ha, add Charcoal, Barium and anal gland secretion to that and you've got my sneakers from working at the vet clinic. Nothing breaks a shoe in like good ole anals. Im glad this post is here, i never even thought of buying shoes yet. Might aswell start shopping early. Can't see me finding time once school starts and I have the kid and studying to deal with.
  5. im going to try to find used copies where i can, and search the rest on Amazon. Its going to be a mad dash as soon as we find out what books we need.
  6. I have to laugh at the sleep deprivation comment. That is so true. Atleast im not used to EVER sleeping in. lol. Not studying more than 2 hours is really smart. I tend to push it, then forget what i've read because i got too tired. Luckily where i live there are alot of family oriented outdoor activities, so I can spend my quality kiddo time with him...and my dog, outdoors. lol Did i mention I have one of those too. I have a feeling he is going to get fat over the next 4 years. I mean he gained 10lbs when my son was born. I only now just got it all off him. How often do you other moms utilize a baby sitting service? and does your child(ren) got to daycare as well, or do you use just one child care provider? Here I can get subsidy for a license daycare, but there arent any open after 6:00pm (my sons is only open until 5:20). So an occassional babysitter is my only option.
  7. I think thats wicked hun. I wish i had an Ipad. I'm just excited I got ruled paper at $.10 a pack. I will be a "Newbie" in 2 weeks. I will hopefully be right there with you and knowing you werent overwhelmed on your first day, gives me confidence that i will not drown on my first day either. Thanks for sharing.:) P.S I am completely jealous.
  8. Im doing a 4 year BN program. My school has 4 campus's with 800 students, im at the smallest campus. I got in my first try, but i had people tell me it is hard to get in to. I thought that odd because my high school grades werent perfect. I mean i upgraded some but my chem still sucked. But i also went to college for Veterinarian Assistant and got wicked grades there, and worked in a vet clinic for several years. Maybe that helped?? I dont know, but im happy im here.
  9. Good luck!! I start in 2 weeks. So excited
  10. Thanks ladies, Thats all great tips/advice. Do you know how long in advance you get your schedule for your clinicals? I'm sure if i have enough notice, i can find a way to get my son to his grandparents house (3hours away). Or I can hire a babysitter sometimes. I'm not sure how many/how often clinicals are. I dont yet have my class list, and its driving me nuts. Closests thing i have is a "typical" outline. But varies by school location.
  11. I'm starting school full time in 2 weeks. And im stressing it hard lol. I have 1 child (3 years) But im also alone. Im sure if you have a good support system, and arent worried about taking a little longer to graduate, it wont be a big deal. You can do it, i'm sure you can.
  12. I start my 4 year RN program in 16 days, and i got little to no information as to whats going on. I am *patiently* waiting or my list of textbooks.... I cannot wait to get started and at the same time i am terrified
  13. Hi everyone. I'm a single mom who is starting a 4 year RN program in 16 days, and am looking for any advice at all pertaining to balancing school and family, study aids, and general survival of nursing school. I have sole custody 100% of the time of my 3 year old son, and moved out of province for school, so im am totally alone. Luckily I did meet one student mom here who *fingers crossed* might want to trade baby sitting breaks once in a while, but other than that its all on me and daycare. I'd love to hear from people who have been here, done this or are doing this, but a big question i have is, if you could have predicted something you were going to be learning about, and started studying it...say 2 weeks before school started, what would that be? Thanks!
