OK...Our school is located in the "capital" of this state, has it's own hospital but, our clinicals are 45 miles away. On the other hand, the University that is located in the same area as our clinicals do their clinicals here:eek: How much sense does that make?
How far are your clinicals and why?
Since our nursing school is the only one in the area , there are 3 different hospitals that we particiapte with. We are allowed to pick which one we will do our clinicals in. Each one is about 30min to an hour from the school, in different directions. Its nice, because we pick the hospital that is close to our house, so the drive aint so bad. Mine is only 10 min from my house. Counting red light time!!
Right now, my medsurg clinicals are only 20-30 minutes away, but some of my classmates have driven an hour and a half each way. We have to go the night before, too, so that was pretty rough on some of us. We also have limited clinical sites, and we are not allowed to have clinicals at the same place twice, so that really limits the options that our instructors have to give us.
...We've done clinical at 4 different hospitals, one of which was local to the school. Two were an hours drive east and another an hours drive south. When I began I was an an hour and fifteen minutes away from the school and the clinicals were about 100 miles door to door. I moved to the school locale and have saved a ton of time for studying and the like. I feel fortunate to have been able to do rotations at differing facilities!!

Our hospital is an hour drive, and we do have to visit the night before. Thakfully, I am right there anyway for class the day before clinical, so I will just bop on over. Getting up at 5am the next morning to drive in will be rough, but do-able! :)
