  1. Plenty. Don't get hung up on your sex, k?
  2. Hey EKIRKPAT~ Don't be frustrated by the non-representation of Carolina hospitals. Look for NOVANT healthcare. They have at least one or two hospitals in Charlotte. I'll bet they have a pile of listings for jobs too. I work at a NOVANT site in Winston Salem. They have in-house contracts, plenty of overtime, etc. cheers~tom
  3. Don't cardiac pt.s experience heightened sexual inhibition??
  4. All of theses answers while correct do miss an important point; HCL in the stomach is there to kill bugs via low pH. These inhibitors nix the low pH and thereby give rise to bug growth. Sucralfate will bind with HCl, preventing the stress ulcers w/o raising the pH to unsafe( for the patients protection) levels. Read "The ICU Book" by Paul Marino
  5. If your male Nurse Graduate is having trouble getting hired...then perhaps HE is saying something that triggers a problem with the hiring folk??
  6. ~~We have four in our 14 bed Neurosurgical ICU here at Emory Hospital in Atlanta. This is a large teaching hospital with the CDC down the street on the edge of campus. Apparently the NP's here do quite a bit of assessment/progress notes and orders. I say apparently because I work nights and don't see them often.
  7. I think the topic is appropriate for an open forum. The Hospitals don't want you to know what each other make$. The hospital I just left in Arlington had new grads starting at about $23/h. up from $21. I didn't see any gender bias or any other bias for pay. Also, their night diff and weekend diff's were, on the whole, quite nice @ $4 each. Plus they have an in-house registry which allows you extra shifts at $10 bonus rate. The money is very nice, but it won't make you happy. My coworkers were the best part of my job.
  8. Use ten minute resume dot com. It is cool.
  9. ~~From the male Nurses side~ ~~~Only thing that would concern me would be the potential for infection. ~~~To me it would seem that you'd want to keep the natural, gravity fed toilet working, with all the Natural Flora, even attached flora regularly sloughing. As far as Endocrine functions, we all need to look at any adjunct therapy we ingest as having potential for complications. However, as we all know, we are the best judges of what our bodies' need or do not need. ~Please do report back as to therapeutic effects of your chosen solution.
  10. My best friend sells real estate and she thinks I'm nuts for not trying. Makes sense to me if you're willing to accept a no for the bonus and a no for a position, probably at nearly the same time. I recently visited the city where I'm moving to to be interviewed by two differing facilities. I don't think either were offering a bonus, however one of them was offering to pay moving expenses and had money available for other such things. But I couldn't accept a bonus or a position from them, because I'm sure I would've been unhappy there. So, the facility that i'm signing with is the one that had a huge bonus~~Great People~~considering that I'm at the beginning of my nursing career, and not the end of it, kinda' reminds me of that Master Card commercial: Moving expenses-$2000.00 Sign on bonus- $5000.00 Great People- Priceless~~ ~~~~~Some things money cannot buy~~~For everything else... Good Luck. ps: some grads in my class have received a sign on bonus.
  11. ~~~~Thanks, I needed that~~~~ ~~~~~~~:roll
  12. I dont get it. We lighten their loads enormously, give meds, iv and inj, do all assesments ,paperwork, almost everything and they give us such a hard time. ~~my clinical-mates complain all the time about the nursing staff. But i've yet to have a problem with anyone at anytime. Most of it i chalk up to gender play (nurses and students) and lack of self esteem( students and nurses).
  13. ~~Tell us more about the silence thing...that sounds very interesting??
  14. FDA site says it's IV legal. I've always been taught to diute then push over two minutes. My clinical instructor showed me in her reference where i didn't have to do that for 25mg or less the other day, but allowed me to push it my way anyway. From what I understand pH and tonicity play an important role in the potential for chemical phlebitis, but haven't found any references that I have at hand to aid me with that info~~
  15. Woo hoo~~123!! Whats that mean?? IQ is what intelligence tests measure..a quotient. That high IQ tells you, you will probably do well in your pursuit of subject matter in school, but it doesn't clue you in on whether your dexterity skills, critical thing skills,or interpersonal skills are intact. And though those skills can be learned it still requires determination, desire and love. ...I like alot of the info given in these posts, but one of the sentiments that sticks out is Emotional intelligence!! You have it, your body is full of it, but can you access it? School is the right time to expose any weaknesses you have. Become aware of those weaknesses, if any, and ask for guidance from peers or especially teachers. In the same light, capitalize on your strengths, help others with these strengths. Don't forget, everyones a teacher, the student has to be ready! Good Luck~~
