What was your favorite clinical rotation as a student? My favorite was OB/GYN. I loved demonstrating how to bathe the new parents baby. My second favorite was Labor and Delivery. It was thrilling watching those little munchkins make their way into their new world. I even had the opportunity to watch the delivery of a set of triplets delivered C-section. My third favorite was OR. I had the opportunity to observe every type of surgery the hospital I was training in offered, with the exception of abdominal surgery.

My least favorite was Geriatrics.

Cheers!

mine were, er, surgery, and i love being around the elderly as this is where i would love to retire from a ltc facility one day.

My favorite clinical rotations during my old college days were L&D, Mother/Baby, and all surgery units....oh....my advanced med/surg rotation which I got first pick of was on a Cardiac Stepdown Unit which I loved! :)

we don't have OR rotations per se but we do get to experience occasional OR observations in 3 quarters. so OR gets my vote as favorite.

but i plan on working ER upon graduation.

L and D; definately not Geri. I love taking care of elderly pts in the hospital but do not like LTC

I like all of your replies, and Jill, I'm with you about taking care of the elderly.

Connie, what interests you the most about Psych nursing?

Rena, I agree with you; OR is fascinating. Why then are you going to the ER instead? Is it because it's a challenging rotation, and you get to use all your nursing skills? I liked the ER as well, and loved all the things I got to do while in training. It's probably because I was an EMT for 17 years, and loved every minute of it.

Renee,

how lucky for you that you got to work in stepdown.

And Stephany,

I wish you well. The world certainlly needs more people dedicated to LTC nursing.

Cheers to you all.

I like the intensity of the theraputic relationship in psych. I also found out that I was good at it so that made it a fun rotation too.

mine was L&D for sure!

Connie,

Thank you for your response. Psych must be your God-given talent. I'm sure you'll use it well.

Mark,

All I can say is, "Yahoo!" You're the first male nurse I've been in contact with who either likes or works in Labor and Delivery. My hat is off to you.

Cheers!

I have enjoyed ER rotation. I do not think it is where I belong but, it has been interesting. Day surgery was great because I really got alot of practice with IV's. My heart and soul are with the Geri patients though. I think I would love Hospice but I have not had the opportunity to do a clinical rotation with them. I learn something new everywhere I go! :) I love nursing

I fell in love with Peds. I just love kids, even if I don't care for their parents overmuch. ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed my OB clinical as well; not so much for L&D but for the nursery/NICU and postpartum - teaching new parents about their babies was awesome for me. Babies are my "thing" I guess. :) This clinical nipped it in the bud for me as to where I want to work when I finally get out of school.

I also very much enjoyed Psych. Parts of it were a bit "scary" (for lack of a better term) but overall I thought it was a very rewarding and great learning experience.
