i have an accordion file that i take into work. it holds stuff like copies of my time sheets and other stuff that is for my eyes only. because i work with curious fools, i wrote on it: l's folder. please respect me by not opening.

lo and behold some idiot went ahead and opened it. i was heated. who does that? as you can tell i do not like my **** to be touched. at. all. yes, the folder was left out. no, that does not mean it is public property. where has respect for other's property gone? ok, vent over.

so, have you ever had your stuff handled by curious paws?

Why leave it out? Lock it in your locker. Problem solved.

No, because I don't leave private things laying around. Leave it somewhere else, your car, a backpack, your locker...somewhere.

I feel your pain. Honestly, that is why I never leave anything lying around anymore. I am glad there is someone out there like me...LOL

By the way -- I went on a disaster relief assignment and left in a hurry (as you would expect). Two members of my family thought they were doing me a favor by cleaning my, house before I came back.

I completely lost the plot. I mean completely. They had decided to reorganize my bathroom and everything. Not funny...not funny at all.

No one has had a key to my place since.

Why would you leave it out if it was that important?

Much like those who complain about being gossiped about. If you don't want to hear gossip about yourself, don't give out data.

someone ate my banana at work the other day. Not a good day for the folks on my floor.

if you don't want anyone to open it, put a sign on it saying "everyone please open and read asap"

they'll leave it alone.

the tone of your post kinda reminds me of the character francis sawyer from the movie "stripes."

lighten up, francis.

Wow, just wow.

I posted this: Yes, the folder was left out. No, that does not mean it is public property. Where has respect for other's property gone?

But thanks to the few who attempted to make me feel like an idiot.

Yeah- a few years ago I had someone pull a failed algebra test out of my math book and look at it. Wouldn't have minded as much if it was a better grade.

Honestly, if you put a sign that says dont touch on something, of course people are gonna touch it.

Many years ago, the Smithsonian had a tableau with upholstered chairs that sat just past the velvet rope, well within reach of the public. When they had a sign that said, "Please, do not touch the chairs," of course, people touched the chairs. But when they put up a sign that said, "Please, wash your hands after touching the chairs," the perversity of human nature kicked in and folks decided it was all too much effort.

It's a durn shame that you can't leave anything out and keep it private, but the reality is, you can't leave anything out and keep it private.

You might have been better off with an unlabeled file. Some folks see a note that says it's your private stuff and they're just happy you made it so easy to find something interesting.

That doesn't make it right.
