i have an accordion file that i take into work. it holds stuff like copies of my time sheets and other stuff that is for my eyes only. because i work with curious fools, i wrote on it: l's folder. please respect me by not opening.

lo and behold some idiot went ahead and opened it. i was heated. who does that? as you can tell i do not like my **** to be touched. at. all. yes, the folder was left out. no, that does not mean it is public property. where has respect for other's property gone? ok, vent over.

so, have you ever had your stuff handled by curious paws?

Although yes you should have the stuff put up, it doesn't negate the fact that grown adults should not be going through other peoples stuff. Where I do clinicals the students don't have lockers, we have to leave our clinical bags in the breakrooms. I have patient sheets and clinical related stuff in my bag, I would be beyond ticked off if someone was going through my stuff. The point isn't whether you "let it happen", the point should be that you SHOULD be able to put your folder in the break room or wherever it is without people rummaging through it.

A place I worked had a huge problem with people stealing lunches, even labeled food, so what is the solution? The employee shouldn't eat? It's their fault for putting it in the staff fridge?

To the OP, it's very rude and disrespectful. To bad you can't put like a mouse trap right inside to snip at the next prying hand. I just can't imagine going through someones stuff. I feel very awkward even when a friend or family member asks me to grab something out of their purse for them.

Your plea on the front telling people not to open it just enticed them further. There are numerous studies and research conducted on this very subject. Get a briefcase, put the folder in it when not in use, even if you leave it in the nurses station folks will be less likely to intrude.

I never needed a scientific study to teach me this.....I had sibblings:rolleyes:

My expensive glasses disappeared at work one day. When I was searching around and asking about them, the annoying, unpopular individual pointedly made a comment about them. Since I knew what kind of person she was, (nobody cared to give report to her, or take report from her), I then knew what had happened to my glasses. Anything like what you described, is bound to attract attention. Leave it in your car or place it in your locker.

All you had to do was write: OPEN FOR ALL TO SEE. Because then if everyone got to see it, nobody would want to see it. This also gives the person time to decide to see it either now or later. They know it's open for all to see so they will choose to see it later since nobody really cares about what's in a folder... especially a public folder. ;)
