I was wondering what irritates you experience nurses out there. Since I'll be getting into clinics soon enough, I was wondering what students do that frustrates you the most.

:balloons: I welcome all nursing students, and enjoy working with them. If they learn something from me about nursing, then I've done well for the nursing profession. I was a student once myself, and was nervous about how the "seasoned" nurses would react or respond to me. For the most part, all of them were super to me during my college clinicals. :kiss

the thing that would irritate me re: students would be the same as anyone else. Bad manners/attitude. Being a student is an aside.

I don't hate anything about students,to the contrary I find them refreshing. I think they remind us of how it is to be young, compassionate and eager to learn. The realities of nursing that get us disacouraged sometimes haven't touched them yet. We'll welcome students on my unit anytime.

Don't hate students. Don't hate anyone.

Sometimes though students with their fresh book knowledge on how things should be can be a bit judgemental. "GASP that nurse didn't give that bath according tot he book! Look at her bed she made. Did you see how she did that dressing. I'll never cut corners and I'll be perfect and go by the book 100% of the time."

And please don't leave the nurses station with a patients chart! :)

To me though students and new grads are an excellent resource and I'm picking their brain all the time because they have such fresh knowledge.

Know what I mean? Sometimes.

Just for the record...I've have yet to meet a nurse that has not been a sweetie to me during clinicals. I think they're a great source of information of what "real-life nursing" is. In my opinion and from what friends have said -- school is not real world. To all students reading this: if you're not sure of something always ask and be prepared not just for your clinical instructor but betterment of your pts.

The first one i met was a witch, the rest have been very nice.

HI

I usually love students, however, lately I have had to preceptor students who are not interested in anything or do not seem to care about learning just because they might be going into a different field... i work in ICU and they might really want to be in ob/ld or community health, so they seem to not understand that any knowledge could come in handy...

My best advice is to try to get excited about any unit you are in because you never know when you might need that one piece of infor that you learned in a different field...

Have a great year and ENJOY yourself, this is just the beginning and you might not have the opportunity to go to so many different places just to learn new talents!!

:rotfl: ...so true

I don't HATE anything about students.

I do get Annoyed when they have this negative attitude about ALL aspects of nursing in general.

it's like hey, whoa, calm down there...it ain't even started for ya..makes you wonder why some of them are in a program to begin with.

all in all, most are great and we love having them.
