I was wondering what irritates you experience nurses out there. Since I'll be getting into clinics soon enough, I was wondering what students do that frustrates you the most.

Can't think of anything. I enjoy having students around.

Good luck.

I enjoy the ones who work with me and ask LOTS of questions. I do not enjoy the ones who act like they know it all. There aren't many of those, but a few. The subconscious challenge then is to find out what they don't know. (I really don't take on that challenge, but I could see it coming!) Good questions though!

I enjoy students. I get them quite regularly at my school. The "know-it-alls" are the worst. We had one that suggested to one of our teachers a better way to teach. The teacher was livid! I am not sure if she will allow students to observe in her class anymore!

Anyway, good luck! It is difficult to be a student and it can be difficult to be a experienced nurse. I remember the nurses from clinicals who thought they knew it all too! Some made our life down right difficult.

I always try to remember how I felt during clinicals, and how I wanted to be treated!

One nit-picky (and I only had one) nurse I did clinicals with wrote on my eval that my writing was too small I thought about going back and telling her it might be time to have the bifocals checked, but I never want to see her again (unless I get to care for her sometime!);) :chuckle :(

There is really nothing I dislike about students. My biggest pet-peeve (applies to all) is people that do not learn from their mistakes.

thanx to all that replied.. can't wait to start clinicals

Research your pt,know your meds & side effects, basically have a general knowledge of your pt...only thing that bugs me is when you can TELL somebody didn't even try to do their homework..of course there will be questions..that's understandable..but I've already gone through school & am not there to do it all FOR you. Most nurses are more than helpful.Just do your part and be prepared. Best of luck to ya :)

There is nothing I particularly hate about students. I have peeves about co-workers in general, which can include students, such as lateness/laziness etc. Nothing that is aimed at students particularly.

I don't hate students at all...I was there once:) We all have to learn....I work nights though and only interact with them at change of shift.

There are things that may irritate me at times. The ones that think they are a NURSE already

I know when I was in school if the nurse came into the report room or needed the chair to chart WE GOT UP AND OUT OF THE WAY!!!! Today's students will not do that.

We give Charge Report in the report room at 0630 and the students are there then; every chair in "use" by a student and it ends up the day charge and I stand there (in front of them) giving report and not one offers to move. I politely said something to them though.

It is courtesy/respect; whatever, but I do know that when I was a student you stayed out of the way and listened.

Thank you all for those replies, i have learned a lot (but will never know it all :D ). More insight on those that have leaped that fence :)

I guess this is the thread that sparked the "wow rude nurses " one...reading my post again..I don't think mine was rude..just honest.Every one of us has been a student and no it's not easy..just like being a nurse responsible for 6-7 pts isn't easy some days(most days)..the nurse AND the students are under a lot of stress..we just all have to do the best we can to 'make it' through :)
