I just wanted y'all's opinion on this. I am from Atlanta and the Runaway Bride was a big story here. It came out today that she has enrolled in an RN program. What do you think about someone who committed this kind of crime becoming a nurse? Interested in your responses!

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

If she'd run away from her fiance, tell culturally-biased lies to the police about being kidnapped, and engage in deception on a grand scale, I really wonder what type of nurse she'd turn out to be. Really...

I envision this woman as she abandons a load of med/surg patients during the middle of her shift because she couldn't take the heat anymore. Seriously...

I found a link to the story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennifer_Wilbanks

Who knows, she may not even make it through.

Well....all professions attract their share of strange people-- nursing is not exempt! :uhoh21: As for lying, well, my last manager used to lie all the time! (not that it's right, but everyone has their issues!).

Specializes in Day program consultant DD/MR.

Doesn't she have to pass a criminal background check?

Specializes in Me Surge.

When this story happened some of the news agencies called her a "nurse". She was not a nurse. She worked in a doctor's office. I wrote letters to the a few major news networks asking them to stop calling her a nurse since she was not licensed as a nurse. I told them working in a physician's office does not make one a nurse. I explained what does entitle one to use to title nurse.

Specializes in None.

LOL coming soon Runaway Nurse!!!

Hey I think I've worked w/her! :lol2:

Specializes in ED, ICU, PSYCH, PP, CEN.

I kinda feel sorry for her. For the rest of her life she has a big red R on her chest. If she is really a "normal" person who did something really stupid in the heat of the moment she has been punished enough by the continuing humiliation.

However, I don't think being a nurse is a good idea for her. It demands compassion for others, an incredibly high sense of "responsibility" and "stick too it" and a high level of integrity.

She seems lacking in these departments and I'm not sure she acquired these by her escapade.

Also she really has too high a profile now. All of her patients would be saying "hey aren't you that lady that ......."

Just a few dumb thoughts of mine on the situation. I could be right, I could be wrong.

I think the article said that her record would be cleared if she successfully completed probation.

i wonder what name she will choose when she joins AN
