Shoes!!!!!!

Hello Nurses,

I am an ICU nurse and I work 12 hours shifts. The question is what are the best shoes for working in? I come home many days feeling like my feet and my back are having a tug of war with the rest of my body. I am looking for clogs with wooden heels but don't know who makes them or where to find them. Any suggestions?! My feet and my back will thank me.

New balance 608. The higher the number the better the support

Merrell jungle mocs! Have tried reebok, nike, saucony, new ballance and naot. Have 4 pairs of mocs.

I have Sketchcer's in every color. They are light weight and breathe well, and are pretty inexpensive.

I also have a pair of Borne clogs that are very comfortable.

I have tried many types of shoes. I started having heel pain and assumed I need some heel cushions for my shoes. After discussing my problem with one of the ER docs, he said I needed an arch support because my arches were flattening and pulling at where the muscle attaches to my heel. I decided to try some of those Phase 4 orthotics they advertise on TV (cheaper if ordered off the website), and they have helped ALOT. My heel pain returns whenever I don't have them in my shoes, so I wear them all the time now. Unfortunately I can't wear them in my sandals I wear when I'm off work - they slide out the back - my feet sure miss them!

I am going to be starting a new job in a SICU/HU soon and bought 2 pairs of Anywears clogs. The Nurse manager recommended that I get a pair of the plastic clogs as they are easier to keep clean. I wore the navy blue pair at my current job the other night for a 12 hour shift. They were comfortable for the most part but made my toes hurt. I guess that I am not used to wearing clogs and have had that problem before with other clogs. So, I'll tough it out and see how it goes.

This from your very own and Very Cool foot care nurse:

Please, please, please don't wear any thing with a hard sole! " 'Why?' ", you may ask yourself. Because unless your calcaneous and metatarsals are made out of steel you will suffer greatly a few years up the road. You are asking for spurs, for mal alignment and nerve damage. And...if the shoes you wear make your toes hurt, get rid of them.

I say these things out of love for you and your feet. Be good to your feet and make me a happy girl.

Well I really like my New Balance 337. They are great. The best I've found.

I got these clogs at Life Uniform. They are called AnyWears. Bar none the most comfortable things I have ever had on my feet. (and I have feet problems). I too work 12 hour shifts and this is the first time I haven't had pain in my feet for a really long time. Run about 60 bucks and so far worth every penny. Birkenstocks are good too but you do have to break them in for a couple of weeks. I'd take these AnyWears over Birkies any day!!

I have horrible feet. I started having problems when I was 14 (now 32) with knee swelling, leg, back and foot pain. I ended up with being dx with collapsed arches then. I was given custom made orthopedic insoles and 'ol lady shoes'. `Needless to say I was defiant and never wore them. I have spent thousands of dollars of all kinds of professional nursing shoes. top brand tennis shoes and cheap shoes. I was replacing shoes every 6-8 weeks just to keep the severe back pain away. I finally broke down and bought a pair of SAS and Birkenstock clogs in a last attempt before I hit the podiatrist for another grand to go to those horrid things they made for me years ago.

I like the Sas for about 8 hours and after that my feet and legs get sore. After my Birks were broken in I thought I went to heaven. I have worked 6 12's in a week without back pain...for me they are heaven. I've actually been able to wear them for about 6 months now and they still look and feel great!! I'm getting ready to buy some more for work and casual.

Just my little advertisement here!!

Thanks for all the great advice. I will soon be deciding on which shoes I like the best or shall I say which shoes my feet like the best.

New Balance 608 cross-trainers. Excellent;)

I just bought a pair of Nikes that slip on with no laces sorry don't know the name off hand and they are great better than my birkenstocks.
