Salary Ettiquette

Nurses General Nursing

Hello,

I had an interview today at a long term care facility for an LPN job. It was my 2nd interview... Anyway, it was a great interview and I was offered the job, started paperwork, did the drug screen etc, BUT amid all the excitement -- I FORGOT TO ASK WHAT MY PAY WAGE WOULD BE! After I left, I called the facility but the nurse supervisor had already went home for the day. I feel like a dunce not asking, even after being asked if I had any questions! Shall I call tomorrow? Should I just wait until HR calls me back after my background check and drug screening clears?

What should I do?

Any facility worth working for , will discuss wages and benefits BEFORE the hiring process goes to paperwork and drug screen.

The nursing supervisor is not the person to ask. It is their HR that you need to communicate with.

I realize you are ecstatic over the offer, however they are desperate for help and are rushing you into their employment.

Do you know your job description, how many patients you will be responsible for?

Review your employment letter, get these answers, before you accept this position.

Thanks for the advice. Man...I wish I knew. She didn't give me a job description per se or letter. I was actually offered the job before I finished the application but my friend that works there had put in a good word for me. I actually found out during the interview that my friend has been discussing with the nursing manager that she's thinking of leaving... Ugh. I want the job but I also just don't want to be underpaid. I am an entry level nurse though. I just would like to know what they'll start me out at.... I guess I'll call tomorrow.

Best of luck. let us know the details.. before you sign on.

Does the salary make a difference in your decision making ?

IE if they tell you 15$/hr will what you do be any different than if they told you 30?

It absolutely makes a difference in my decision to accept or decline a job offer.

I stand corrected. Thank you!

Well, yes it does make a big difference, to me. McDonalds employees in some cities in my state are getting upwards of above 12, 13, 14 dollars per hour. With having much more education, I would hope that I could get a wage that was more than a dollar more than those working at McDonalds. Wouldn't you? ;)

In my experience, you'll still have to meet with HR and sign the job acceptance letter, which should have your pay rate on it. Unless this was the paperwork you already started?

The paperwork I completed today was the application and the background check form. They also had me do the drug screening as well. I only spoke with the supervising nurse. She said that once everything clears, that HR will give me a call. Should I still call tomorrow or should I just wait until HR calls me back?

Wait for HR to call you. They are very special snowflakes.
