I had never heard of him. Sounds like an amazing man - overcommitted though. Too selfless. What kind of cancer did he have? steph
What kind of cancer did he have?

I remember thinking, this guy could not possibly have much of a life, but he did. He ran regularly, worked out, and had a good marriage.
There never are simple answers, are there.
sigh.

I saw that series. He was from South Africa, originally, if i remember. I also read the book "walk on water" ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0670032018/qid=1104184837/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/104-4216182-8719135?v=glance&s=books ) which, although is mainly about dr roger mee and the cleveland clinic pediatric cardiac surgery, mentions dr drummond-webb several times, as he was there before he went on to arkansas.
a very high pressure field. i can see how that kind of pressure could get to anyone.

What a loss for everyone concerned and connected to this MD. I remember watching the series on Discovery Health Channel. He truly had a gift. I hope he is at peace and wish that for his wife and patients.

He was such a great surgeon. I am deeply saddened by this.

Wow, I just saw him on the news with the 14-year old kid with the new heart...
How sad for his wife, family, and patients.
I wish he had stuck around, he could have done a lot more good.

Man, that sucks... I remember just bawling my eyes out watching that mini-series, thinking how awesome he was.... How sad for his wife... I think that she may be a nurse, or doctor, also.... Poor woman...
