Need help on paper to write

Your daughter needs to call her instructor, or the Dean. This is how emergencies of this type were handled at my college. If it is longer term she might need to drop out for the rest of the semester. Two of my classmates had circumstances similar to your daughter's, and after communicating to instructor/dean, the school supported an extension for one (project), and providing a "slot" for re-entry the following semester for the other student.

The thing is she really has to let people know what is going on.

We had a poster here just a couple of days ago that asked us for any papers that we had written on COPD to help give her a "jumpstart" on her paper....would that be you or your daughter, by any chance?

Part of the assignment is to do the research herself, so writing a paper from research you do wouldn't satisfy the requirement. Your daughter needs to talk to her instructor about this and get an extension of some sort. Instructors do this all the time. She could even take an "incomplete" in the course, if it comes to that, so she can do the work herself.

Speaking personally, my dad died during my last semester of nursing school. ALL instructors told me they'd do whatever they could to help me get through school. Do have her talk to her instructors.

My father died while I was in nursing school and I almost got kicked out when the Director, who was also one of my instructors, would not give me any leeway. Your daughter, no matter what her ability to keep up or not keep up may be, needs to inform the school of the situation to cover herself should the need arise. She can not count on the school administrators to treat her with empathy or compassion. Just a word to the wise. I found out the hard way.

Oh come on people shes just asking for some articles! Here are a couple, feel free to look for more on http://www.nursingcenter.com, she will need to use sites such as web md and her pathophysiology textbooks from class to give her the disease description and basic info like that, she also will need to use her nursing diagnosis books to do that part, im sure she knows this. hope this helps!

No, not the same person, I keep telling my daughter this is a great site I use for great information and staying in touch with the our profession.

I am not doing the work for her (I have my hands full with my own stuff and a 3 yr old) LOL. She has told of her situation and was given the extra work for missing clinicals for one day.

Thank you all for the feedback. Nursing school has been very important to her and she is doing very well in it; but hard to be at the bedside for your husband and "do it all" at the same time. But she is determined to get it done and it does not hurt to ask for a little "direction" to get her going on it. Bless you all!!

By research articles, the instructor is probably looking for peer-reviewed research rticles. Most of those require a subscription to the journal, but most universities give access to them through their library website. She will probably need to look at CINAHL, Medline (NOT Web MD - this is not research), or such. It doesn't take long, but she should probably do that part on her own - it is part of the assignment, after all.

Does the hospital have wifi or a computer area for families? Sometimes they can accomodate those needs... If not, she should gather the articles next time she is home. She may benefit from telling the instructor, but a lot of programs are entirely inflexible.

Thank you, I am going to take her computer up to her, I would HOPE they do have internet connection. Surprisingly enough, they do not even have a shower in his room; strange!

Hie thee to a nursing library, like at a school other than where they know her, and ask the reference librarian for help.

There is a whole big bunch of articles out there and the ref libe will be able to help. She can give you instruction on using the computerized "card catalogue" and show you where the articles are shelved, help you copy some, etc.

I hope the school isn't too harsh about a deadline for this paper, as your dtr has enough going on. Bless you, Mom, for wanting to help her. To the other posters here who are suspicious of you, wow, guys, I guess I shouldn't be surprised or shocked but I am dismayed.

This is a mom trying to help in time of need. Wouldn't you appreciate the same if it were your husband? What is family for, for God's sake?

Mom, just don't let anyone know it's not for you. Just be an interested consumer or somethig like that.

Thank you!! I never pay attention to those that are negative or lash out, I figure it is something personal and not really meant for me. All is taken care of now, she has her computer, has accessed the college library and going to buckle down tonight in the hospital to get it done. I did giver her the web sites on here as well that were suggested that may help her in her search. Thank you to all those that were actually helpful.

I understand all too well about having to do things on your own: I had 2 small kids, 3 jobs and FT college when I went back to school and not much help AT ALL from anyone; so I know when a breath of fresh air blows by to offer a bit of relief, it makes the world of difference, no matter how small or big the help is.

Right. We all understand that. It's just that some of us object to doing others' work.

The fact remains that this is a mom (maybe or maybe not: as I posted before, we had a student previously requesting the exact same info) asking that we help direct her "daughter's" research efforts. Hmmmmmm...

While in nursing school, it did not ever, ever occur to me to ask anyone else to direct my research efforts, let alone ask me to do the initial research for them.

That's all I'm sayin..........
