My Hands Are A Mess! Which Lotion?

Naturally, I wash often, and use the gel going in and out of every room. I might get to use lotion about 3/4 way through my night-shift when it's time to sit down and chart, but inevitably a patient needs me the minute it's rubbed in. My hands are so sore, they hurt. Any lotion suggestions?

I don't bother much with lotion when at work, but before bed I will rub on Neutrogena hand cream, maybe with a little vaseline or Aquaphor on the really dry patches. My hands are fine by morning. On days off, I wear gloves when washing dishes and using cleaning products to give my hands extra protection.

I like to use the stuff from Lush; I prefer non-animal tested, all natural ingredients.

My favorite thing so far is the soft touch moisturizing bar. I rub it on my hands after washing and dryness is never a problem. I also like the Lemony Flutter for my nails and cuticles; it has totally eliminated my habit of picking at dry cuticles. Dream Cream lotion is a good one, too.

The Gold Bond medicated lotion is great!

I have eczema on my hands. I use Gold Bond unscented lotion when I am working. It comes in a white bottle with a gold colored pump. I use it whenever possible throughout the day and it keeps my eczema from flaring up even with all the hand washing I do each day. When I do get flare ups, I switch to the Gold Bond extra strength in the green bottle. It has the menthol smell so I try to only use this at night when I'm not out.

I use a lotion called Lac-Hydrin. It contains lactic acid...makes skin so soft.

I have skin allergies, so I have tried a lot of different brands. My favorite is Nivea.

Alas, I've tried almost EVERYTHING that people have mentioned here. No luck for me. The only thing that offers minimal relief is Solarcaine spray. You know, for sunburns? It doesn't make my hands pretty, but it keeps me from wanting to amputate them in the middle of the night.

We just had an e-mail today about unapproved soaps and lotions at work. They are going to go around and toss any unapproved stuff they find. I don't mind the hand soap but the sanitizer leaves a nasty film that's really hard to wash off :trout:

Guess I'll need a good lotion after I get home and scrub the nasty film off

Best thing I've found to do? Put lotion on your hands prior to donning the gloves for patient contact. That way the lotion does what it should..absorbs into your hands. It's not supposed to dry on your skin...and it doesn't absorb unless it is allowed heat and time to do so. It gets monotonous after awhile because we're always washing our hands..so it's best to do it while you're sitting for a moment or two...just lube up your hands and put on the gloves.

Glysomed Hand Cream works great.

I don't know if anyone else mentioned it but I like Burts Bees hand salve, it comes in a yellow tin. I buy it at fred meyers or walgreens. It is not something you can rub on and use your hands right away, a little greasy. But I notice a difference all day even after washing my hands frequently.
