My Hands Are A Mess! Which Lotion?

Nurses General Nursing

Naturally, I wash often, and use the gel going in and out of every room. I might get to use lotion about 3/4 way through my night-shift when it's time to sit down and chart, but inevitably a patient needs me the minute it's rubbed in. My hands are so sore, they hurt. Any lotion suggestions?

Aveno unscented. Feels very soothing.
Have to agree. My hands are usually roached from all the washing too. Plus, the antiseptic stuff they put in the dispensers really makes my hands raw. I bring some of my own soap in a little container and use it if I'm not dealing with something like MRSA and such. I then follow with the Aveeno. I have found that this really helps my hands a lot. I have those chronic dry skin hands. Never understood how all the other nurses on the floor had such pretty hands compared to mine. Now, with this regimen, I find that my hands are pretty comparable to the other girls I work with.;)

A&D Diaper rash ointment. It has not got any drying ingredients in it. Most other lotions have alcohol in them. I say most, I haven't looked at them all, but all the ones I did see had some alcohol content.

A%D had wax, paraffin, petroleum jelly, codliver oil, and lanolin in it. And it smells like dead fish to me. I use it once a week on the hands and elbows and it fixes or prevents cracking, makes my cuticles and nails better, etc. Very nice stuff and about two dollars a tube, lasts a long time, it's really economical. Since it stinks, don't eat for about an hour after using it.
