Most exotic places to nurse

I'm looking for people to share their experiences about the most exotic places to nurse and if it was worth the wage/experience of living in such a place to move.

I've thought about throwing my license out there in/around south florida, key west, Hawaii, big cities like NYC, being an aerial/med evac nurse, cruise ship nurse, etc.

I'm both looking to gain critical care experience as I go through school prior to enrolling in CRNA school and have an amazing experience doing it.

Share your experiences/thoughts, preferably people that have personally done it.

A friend runs the hyperbaric chamber at a popular diving area in the Caribbean.

Oooh, hyperbarics is cool, and you'll learn about ABGs and stuff just like in the ICU, only the equations are upside down (pressure versus altitude). I worked in hyperbarics per diem for a year or so and really loved it.

Not much in the way of critical care on cruise ships, at least not enough to count for CC experience.

Somebody who's a student and not an RN can't get "critical care experience" that counts anywhere. If you're about to graduate, you'll only be able to get new grad jobs.

As for me, what counts as "exotic" would be someplace like the oilfields of North Dakota. I hear it's really hard to get work in HI.

Travel nursing, if you have a few years of experience as a staff nurse already. You can go to lots of destinations that way :)

Aside from that, air transport nursing is a very exciting job, according to my friends that do it. I wouldn't do cruise ship nursing, especially for CC experience. It will mostly be seasickness, diarrhea, and the old man that had a heart attack between cruise ports. Add to that always being on call and not getting to leave the ship in most ports.....not as exotic as you might hope.

Hawaii is nice, it's tropical, but not third world. So you get the flavor of exotic without the risk of an undeveloped country.

Exotic / amazing experiences are the eyes of the beholder. I found Hawaii to be an exotic PLACE but not an amazing experience.

How about nurse on an Indian reservation and responsible for flight duties? Nothing like assisting with intubation and starting IV's while hundreds of feet in the air.

A friend of mine got the chance to nurse in Africa. She was at a women's and children's center. She said it was the BEST experience of her life.
