When hanging a bag and it has 250ml of solution in it and you want in to go in over an hour you set the pump at 250ml/hr

250ml solution right? (I hope)
But waht about if you want it to go in over 30 min. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You would set it at 500ml/hr

you are right..250cc/hr for one hour
500cc/hr for 30 min
125cc/hr for 2 hours
just remember if you want it to run faster (1hr.) you will sent the pump lower than what is in your bag.

Ditto Roberta's response - Good calculating!
But mcg02, make sure that the patient's vein will take it...250 in 1/2 an hour is a lot for a peripheral vein.

Yeh and never use an angio cath that is smaller than 20 ga, it'll blow for sure

I know ya'll say this all the time, but I have to differ. We rarely use anything larger than a 22 and RARELY blow veins when running a bolus. Maybe it's the difference in young veins and old veins, I dunno??

Or maybe a 22 in a bitty baby vein is comparable to a 16 in a steelworker?
