Is it too late for me?

Hi, all!

I'm 31 and it will take me 3,5 years to become RN. So i'll be 34,5 when i graduate. Will I be one of the oldest new grads? At that age..new grad and.......... no RN experience? :nurse:

Specializes in Telemetry.

I'll be 31 when I graduate. There a lot of people my age and older in my class. In fact, we have on student who is in her 60s. I say it's never too late to go back to school! Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Well, if you are too old, then I must be over the hill! I started getting doing my pre-reqs done and am ready to apply to a nursing program close by. I am 41 and the age thing doesn't bother me. I figure that I love what I'm doing right now. There is a lady in one of my classes who is 60 who told me that her friend is a few years older than her and they are supporting each other in continuing their education and completing the RN program. In many instances, people who have a few more years under their belts often are more clued in and have more motivation than the younger ones.

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

You think 34 is old? oh dear.

I turn 31 tomorrow, and I graduate from nursing school June of 2012 - I'll be 33... so my vote is "No". ;-)

I'll be 42 when I finish. There are a few students older than me in my class.

I figure I have lots of experience- already have a BS in Psych and had a career in social work, have raised three boys, and so on. You're never too old!!

What a silly question to post. I will be done with my BSN when I turn 40. :grad:

Specializes in OB/women's Health, Pharm.

I teach in a BSN program. Nearly every year we have a grad in his or her 50s, and at least a few in their 30s. No, you are not too old. Think of it this way: Because the earliest you will retire is 66 (if no changes to the system occur), you have 35 years ahead of you to create a successful carreer.

I'll be 52 when I grad....maybe i can use my schooling to get a discounted rate at the nursing home:jester::lol2:

Wow! I don't think it was a silly question to post. I just think the poster may have needed a little encouragement. I will finish at 38 (actually 41 for my MSN) and I asked the same question, but I realized that I will be 38 regardless if I went back to school or not. Good Luck to you all:yeah:

Specializes in Emergency.

Oh...my...goodness. There are plenty of "old" people in my class if that's what you want to consider yourself. At least 15+ students are over the age of 30. I think we even have 3 ladies in their 50's and a lot in their 40's. Don't let age be a factor and stop you from doing what you want in life. I doubt you would be the oldest in your class, especially with the economy the way it is. Every one seems to be going back to school. Good Luck!

Specializes in cardiovascular.

well, you are going to turn 34 anyway, god willing. do you want to be a nurse when you get there? or not?

as far as age goes i am 41 and a new grad, and being an rn sure as heck beats being a cna, and the pay is better too. ;)

best, andie
