  1. I said and I quote "sometimes their lazy" - which I hate that I wrote because I used the wrong "their" oops correction *"they're". But to the point... sometimes they ARE lazy! I didn't say everyone or all the time! And I'd like to see anyone who's worked with people say that people aren't ever lazy. There are some that do send their baby to the nursery so they can watch tv, and eat, and go out for "fresh air" every hour, and talk on their phone about how cute their baby is - when they've had it in their room for 15 minutes. Then the second they get a visitor they're pounding the call light wanting the baby... then the visitor leaves.. they pound the call light and say they need help putting the baby in the crib and it needs to go back to the nursery.... sometimes we're not the hospital, we're the Hilton. Now are there people who are exhausted? YES! Need a couple hours of uninterrupted sleep? YES! Need to recuperate because they just had a repeat c/s after trying to VBAC for 15 hours? YES! Plenty of legit reasons for a baby to go to a nursery for a couple hours... but are there lazy people? YES! And to be quite honest - I'm lazy sometimes too. Because I'm a "People" and like I said "people are people, and sometimes *they're lazy." Have a good one!
  2. I work on a very large post-partum floor, and yes - mom's will send their babies for the entire night sometimes [usually a couple each night]. We always have a RN assigned to Nursery and Transition. Usually there is an ECN RN too, depending on if we have boarders and how many. We have 46 rooms [single occupency] but our census runs at about an average of 66/day - but our floor handles - and so we count - Moms, Babies, GYNs and Readmits. We don't make the patients take the baby, if they ask for the baby to go to the nursery we take them to the nursery... they are encouraged through all RN teachings and Lactation [if it applies] teachings that the baby does best with mom in the room, but people are people and sometimes their lazy - but that's just my opinion....
  3. I know, it's been weird... I guess I'll just go to class on Thursday.
  4. I'm excited! I've got a mini-trip to North Carolina this weekend... and I still have to get all my books, but I'm stoked. The other people I know that are starting are a little ambivalent... I think it's just been this thing we've wanted for so long that it's almost weird that it's here. Does that make sense?
  5. I know, I've been there :), but I think there is more to it than we think. I've heard from a few people that there is a little more too it than first come, first served, so they must be looking at something...?
  6. What I've seen since getting into the program and dealing with the program more and more is that there aren't people who just do this [screening applicants]... they are a group of people who do a million and one things including admissions. They are also handling current students, graduating students, graduations, testing, etc....
  7. #1 - Don't count yourself out of the NURC 102 class. Wait til the drop date. People get dropped for non-payment at 11pm. You get online at 8am the next day and swoop up a seat in a class. I've done this for multiple classes now. #2 - Don't take all the MULT courses. Maybe Phlebotomy, but only take the others if you need the credits to stay full time. #3 - DO do what foreverlaur suggested and take all those Bio classes before you start nursing school itself. #4 - DO find a good adviser that can put you to the classes you'll need to bridge from ADN to BSN if that's an option for you down the road. #5 - DO get a job at a hospital if possible for experience and a foot in the door. #6 - Don't believe random rumors about the program or anything that doesn't seem quite right. Call the Nursing department about weird things to get straight answers. #7 - also DO consider OSU's bridge from Bachelors [of anything] to BSN/MSN it's a three year program. I have a girl in my physiology class who's applying to OSU's program, she worked in Marketing for 5 years and hated it... I love Columbus State's program, but if I had a degree already, I'd go to OSU for that bridge program... Spend the same amount of time with recieving a higher degree. and #8 - GOOD LUCK WITH WHAT YOU DECIDE!
  8. :lol2: :lol2: Yay!? LOL, just kidding, I know, I just feel my eyes glazing when I hear the first word.
  9. LOL, one of the things I'm NOT looking forward to is whatever we learn about Diabetes again!!! OMG, I've heard variations of Diabetes lectures on what it is and what's wrong with the body 6 times. We have one coming up in physio, and I'm sure we'll hit it in Patho too.... so that'll be 8. Plus Nursing school. Oyi. I could teach a lecture on Diabetes now.:smackingf
  10. I'm one of those people too. Physiology has been awesome compared to just memorizing individual muscles, viens, arteries, etc. and placement [which are different from cadaver to cadaver to model to picture]... and I do realize that all people are different too, but just that mass amount of memorization was horribly boring and time intensive. I like *understanding* it better = why I like physiology. And I did fine in anatomy but I was taking Eng 111 too and that was sooo time intensive with my teacher. It was time more than anything.
  11. I know, speech, woo-hoo, right? And I'm not doing hybrid so I think I have to video my speeches and turn them in. Oh well. As for what coreqs - I'm in Physiology & Humanities now, next quarter the Speech - so I'll have Patho, Micro, and that other Comm class. Not too bad, since I've only ever gone full time Winter '09 & Spring '10 Quarters. I'll definitely take Patho Winter quarter, I wanted to take it Fall, and just gut it out with the Nurs classes, but the times STUNK for taking with these first quarter Nurs classes, most of the times overlapped one of the times we'd be in class. Ugh. But I have a friend from Anatomy starting Nursing with us who took summer off, so she's in Physio Fall & we can try to take Patho together. We'll see. So, are you done with your co-req's?
  12. Yup that's my schedule too, plus a speech class online. I wanted the availability for work and my family. So much better to keep all the days together! At least Weds & Thursday will be short to make up for Tuesday...
  13. It was actually a clinical on Monday or Tuesday. I got the Tuesday! - Does that mean you got Tuesday too? I was so happy. It took me 1/2 hour to get on as well and get registered even though I had my screen ready at 11:45pm.
  14. I think that's a little harsh concerning 261. It is a hard class and very fast-paced. I'm happy for you that it was "easy". But I got my second "B" ever in that class and just because someone has a rough time with a science doesn't mean they won't be cut out to be a nurse or make it through nursing school... you both sound really judgmental IMO. There were good, smart people taking it for the second time. And I hope they make it to nursing school... and I won't think they are wasting a spot for someone else.
  15. I just got hired on at OSUMC, with my Nurc 101 & 102, no hospital experience but 7 years of patient care in an office setting. I just kept applying to every open position, and they called me for an interview eventually: Recruiter and then the floor Nurse Manager. They also knew I was starting nursing school in a month and a half. I applied at OSU, Ohio Health, and MtCarmel, and OSU was the only one that got back with me. Good luck.
