I quit my first RN job....

Nurses General Nursing

I quit my first RN job after 4 months. I couldn't take it anymore. I have never hated a job ever until then. It was absolutely horrible. I was losing my sanity. It was in a hospital setting... med/surg oncology.

I love oncology... worked in an oncology office for over 2 years as an LPN. Totally loved it.

The hospital is not for me!

And now.... I have landed a Case Management job for Hospice!!

I am totally excited!! I can't wait to begin!!

Good luck to all you out there. Your perfect job is out there... try for it!!

Lisa how fantastic! Can you document on here how you got your job to help other struggling nurses, plus we would all love to hear your success story in detail!

It was easy... I was totally shocked!

There was an Open House for Hospice by the Sea on Friday here in South Florida. It seemed like over 100 people showed up. First I filled out the application, then I was seated, I interview with 3 people. Not knowing what to expect. They asked really simple basic interview questions. The last lady told me that she liked my confidence. Then she stepped out of the room told me she would be right back. She came back 5 minutes later, I had another seat... waited some more.... then I met with the HR director.

She had a piece of paper... said Ok, well were gonna offer you a Case Management Position and this is the Salary. "Do you except?" I signed the paper... I go in on MOnday to HR to finish paperwork! Trust me totally shocked.

I didn't believe I would get something like this. I had only 5 months exp. as an RN. They asked why I left. I said because It was not a good fit for me. I liked how busy it was but the downside was I was not able to spend any quality time with any of my patients and that was important to me.

wow... still in shock! :yeah:

Congratulations Lisa, glad you're happy!

congrats on your hospice job. I had a per diem hospice job and loved it. My mother just passed away in a hospice in Dade City. They were so great!

By the way...it was HPH Hospice House. Beautiful place....wonderful staff!!

That's awesome!!! Congrats!! :) Is it a Mon-Fri job and do you have your BSN?

Congratulations it is so nice to hear an inspiring post! I too quit my first nursing job after 6 months it was horrible and the feelings of fear and dread never went away. I too felt like there was no time to spend with the patients! I am about to start my second nursing job, and I am excited & nervous. Everyone insisted I stick it out a year, but well, when a job isnt right it isnt right.

Best of luck, follow your heart!

Congratulations. You have probably found your niche. My first hospital job was oncology (1977) and if there had been hospice out of the hospital you can be it would be me applying. All specialties do NOT fit all nurses. After about 2 years of meandering from unit to unit in a float pool, I landed feet down and steady in where I stayed the next 22 years. Hopefully you have found your slot. Good on you.

Wow, that is great, I am so happy for you :yeah: I started my first RN job Aug. 2010 and I am looking for another job right now....I actually recently applied for a hospice case manager position too! I've got my fingers and toes crossed hoping for the best! I am miserable at my job, it's so different than I imagined it would be. I'm depressed for 24 hr. before my shift and am so relieved when it's over. I have panic attacks, cry, etc. And, that is not me! It's so stressful in so many different ways. I don't believe the hospital is for me so I'm continuing my journey to find my niche, I know it's out there somewhere. Again, congrats on your new job, that is great news :)
