I need to interview a Registered Nurse for a class

Hey everyone,

I'm taking an Intro to Nursing class right now and I have an assignment where I have to interview a Registered Nurse with a Bachelors degree.

I just have a couple of questions, like what responsibilities do you have, how has nursing changed since graduation, and how do you use HIPAA to maintain patient confidentiality?

Are any of y'all interested in doing this? If so, I can private message or email you.

Just let me know. :) Thanks so much!

HIPAA isn't a tool people use. It's a set of requirements.

Yeah, I know what HIPAA is; sorry if I worded it weird.

I would be more than happy to help you, however I don't technically have a BSN. I have completed all of my undergraduate classes in a ADN-MSN bridge program. Technically I need three more classes to complete and attain the "BSN" lettering, but instead I am in my first MSN class. If your instructor is ok with that let me know, otherwise best of luck!

Okay, thanks so much. I'll private message you.

you know, you'll learn a lot more from doing a face-to-face interview, which is, i will bet dollars to doughnuts, what your faculty has in mind. think of other reasons why this assignment has been given you. networking, exposure to more specialties, and ... ? hmmm?

besides, d'oh, this is an online forum, and how do you know who you're talking to?

take the trouble to go find a live bsn in your community and don't think that sitting down at a keyboard to ask for all the answers online is the best way to further your education.we love helping students, but there are no online substitutes for some things, and this, imnsho, is one of them.

Agreed that you should try to do the interview in person, but you can PM me if you want.

As an instructor, if I gave that assignment, it would be to give students the experience of interviewing, in person, hopefully, or by phone as second choice. It's a learning, shyness-removing, networking experience. Otherwise someone could just look it up in a book which is pretty close to what you'll be doing if you get the answers from an online discussion board or through email.

I'd advise you to call hospitals and ask to talk to unit directors or managers and see if they can find you someone willing to be interviewed (maybe even them) if you don't know any BSN-prepared nurses.

I think the experience of interviewing is always valuable, but in a pinch I have been known to email a friend or co-worker for my MSN classes.

IMHO you might need to authenticate your assignment by interviewing a nurse in person instead of trying to solicit an interview from an anonymous person.
