I believe we need a male nurses week

Because we should simply be celebrated for having our very presence on the floor lol! Just playing :)

But for real I think we do deserve our own week, lets look at what we do above and beyond:

Heavy lifts and always being asked to "assist" with lifting patients.

Dealing with the combative patients and family members.

Being given the heaviest groups because "were the men".

And many more :D

So my fellow male cohorts, ARE YOU WITH ME!? :coollook:

Instructor.... !.) A male nurse huh....Well he may think he's going to have an easy job, But I am going to see to it that he knows how hard it really is. This particular nursing student failed the course and dropped put of the program. That is just an example of what men went through in the beginning.
...that sounds like grounds for a serious lawsuit to me. I'd be scared, but there are other men in my nursing class, and actually at least 2 or 3 male instructors, too.

I am all for a hot male nurses day. LOL

I'll be first in line for that calender. LOL JK.

Our male nurses on the floor get spoiled too much anyway. They don't need anything else! >_

There is one in particular that I absolutely love, (he is just like my dad) and I make sure his shift is an easy one. (sometimes it kills me) :D

You've got your own "special" forum down there. what more do you want?

Course we could have male nurses week during fathers day week. seems appropriate.

just another reason to have cake. sounds good to me.

I'm so excite we get our own male nurse next week. I hope he's cute.

Make it so june 14-21 will be male nurses week.

Let them eat cake

That was then.... Many men assumed that nursing was an easy way to get to management "Where the real money is"....This was an example of many attitudes at the BEGINNING. Sometimes you have to look at where you came from to appreciate where you are.

when equal rights for equal pay came about, it became illegal to grab guys to do our heavy lifts for us. all the gals on my floor do our own lifts or we grab another female to help lift. if a patient on our unit it out of control i am usually asked to assist to do my background in pysch.

so much for being special lol

when i need help for a lift, i go for the nearest available nurse. male, female or transgendered, it doesn't matter. i've been known to ask male or female providers, too, if the circumstances warrent.

I worked with a male nurse who refused to insert any female foleys, or do any kind of female peri care in general. I just used to think "Helloooo! Do you think it's great fun for us women to run around looking at strange memberes all day?" It's the same concept, but a woman would be fired for refusing to provide any and all care to her male pts!

I can pack a punch better than a few of my male friends. I may be small in size compared to them, but I am strong and tough, Just ask them ;) :p

There were a few instances where I have protected some male nurses in the ER from patients and family.

Where I work, we have lift and transport teams. If they're not around I grab the first available NURSE I see. Regardless of gender. Most nurses I know are pretty darn strong. If we have a heavier patient, I get more NURSES. Often times there are no males anyway. Frankly it's never crossed my mind. Please don't think you're underappreciated if you contribute in your own special ways. Almost all the male nurses I know are incredible NURSES and I would have them take care of me or my family in a heartbeat. Please understand that every NURSE brings something different to the team- for example the on who's fluent in another language and asked from time to time to translate. Maybe male nurses may ask a female nurse to do a certain procedure or step in and talk to a difficult patient. We all are part of a team so I think we should celebrate as just that, in ONE Nurses Week.

I want to know where to go to get all this pampering and spoiling from my lady colleagues! 28 years on the job, and I have totally missed out on this. Please, anyone, is there a list of facilities you could send to me? I am suffering from a three decade pampering deficit!

That was my point tenexe. There is no I in team or gender. However, I have heard many nurses regardless of gender make that distinction. My point in regards to Dr.s and Nursing School instructors....I will give you an example for that I have heard...1.) Dr. I don't know why a man would want to be a nurse. Why don't they become a Dr.? Instructor.... !.) A male nurse huh....Well he may think he's going to have an easy job, But I am going to see to it that he knows how hard it really is. Maybe so, but those that get through inevitably end up getting the promotions...
