How many pt.s do YOU have today?

So I'm wondering. Are there any laws concerning pt./nurse ratio's?

I think most hospitals use the guidelines from the Board of Nursing.....but is there more to it? Just wondering.....and thanks.

zero patients today -- my day off.

one patient yesterday -- a post op cabg.

five patients when i worked days on the heme/onc floor.

fifteen patients when i worked nights on the heme/onc floor.

i'm sure many of you can top this!

Me too. None today. Sometimes only one if they are fresh post op, either fresh liver, kidney, or pancreas patient. Sometimes only 2 depending if one is on an insulin drip and frequent accuchecks. Usually only 3, but sometimes 4. Never more than 4.

5 usually, 4 sometimes. never more than 5. day shift, tele stepdown.

Night shift is staffed the same as day.

sometimes i had an aide to help me. and if i was really lucky, the aide didn't spend the entire shift sleeping in the break room.

yup, i had 15 heme/onc/bmt patients by myself -- each on 3 or 4 iv antibiotics and getting either ampho b or transfused (or both). the bmt patients were in full isolation -- gown, shoe covers, gloves, mask, hair covers and a 60 second hand wash each time you entered their room.

oh yes -- we were expected to fetch drinks and snacks for the many visitors who stayed overnight as well.

after barely a year in that job, i transferred to micu.

12 patients is what I ususally have to take care of. I can't believe that some of you had 15. Don't you worry about your license? (sorry can't spell today, I't my day off). I know that there are times that I do.:uhoh21:

26. It's my usual. I work in an inpatient Psych. All are violent crimminals (alleged). It's ok until some one freaks out and sets the entire unit off

Tele floor- minimumn is 6, sometimes 7. On our new floor they say we can take 8. I am starting my new job in public health in 2 weeks!

Yesterday I started out with 4. 2 discharged, 1 transferred to nursing home, and then 2 admits. All in 8 hours.

THough that was my extra shift on a unit thats not mine. ON my unit, last day I worked....I had 4. 4 is standard on dayshift. maybe 5.

I am a Tech in OB but sometimes I get floated to the Med/Surg floor. The usual staffing for 7p-7a shift is 2 rn's 2 lpn's and 1 tech...2 if you are lucky. that unit can hold 26 pts but they usually have average of 20 pts. Each team consist of 1 RN and 1 LPN and the tech has the whole floor. we have complained and complained but the upper management thinks pts sleep all night :rotfl:
