Help! Possibly pregnant and new job??

In my opinion, you don't need to tell anyone you are pregnant until you deem it is necessary for you to do so. Lifting more than 35 lbs will not affect you during the early part of your pregnancy, unless you have a high risk pregnancy. Your doctor should let you know when it is unsafe for you to lift and should write you a letter to that effect to give to your employer. If I were you I would wait until after you start, and have gone through your probation period, as you don't want this to affect your employment opportunities. It is no one's business unless you choose to inform them.

it's not their business. Take a job and later down the road, let them know... like when you're showing. No need to tell anyone prior to that. And a healthy pregnant woman can lift and do the job of any other nurse safely. Just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you're handicapped. I found out I was pregnant during my first nursing job out of school and I was on orientation. Throwing up and all. It was AWESOME. (Not really) but it can be done.

Follow your doctor's advice about the lifting...during the 1st trimester shouldn't bother you too much. I wouldn't tell them I was pregnant. Take the job, finish your probation, THEN GET FMLA....very important..so that you can take your materniy leave and they can't touch your job. Get this job...look out for you and your baby.

not to be argumentative but usually you have to be employed somewhere for a year before you qualify for fmla.

first of all, congrats! I believe once you take the position that you should tell them. also when you do your physical and the urine test they will ask you if you are pregnant. just be cool about it. don't sweat it and everything will be okay. honesty is the best policy

Ok, so I am going to school full time, and have been interviewing for some positions to get my foot in the door at a place I would REALLY like to work. BUT, I just found out I am pregnant. My last interview went really well, and am supposed to hear back this week whether I got the job or not. I also have another interview today (for another pos). IF I am offered the position, what do I do? Do I tell them? Do I wait until I start? After the first trimester? I feel like I am being dishonest or deceptive if I do not tell them, but I don't want to lose the job because of it. Also, I will be having to lift 35 lb or so... and am not sure if that is something to be concerned about. Please help! I do have another job, so it's not that I NEED this position, but think that it would put me a step ahead when looking for nursing jobs in the future. :redbeathe Thank you!

You are under no legal obligation to tell them you are pregnant and they cannot even ask you.

However, with regards to health insurance, if you are pregant when you already start the job, your pregnancy will probably be treated as a pre-existing condition and may not be covered...the baby will when it is born, but not the prenatal care or the birth.
