He// to the NO!

Favorite saying of my friend from NS. We were both vets and older students....

I got a he// to the NO moment today. Our CEO has decided that NO nurse will work more than 8 hours on the clock (and policy forbids working off the clock). We were told that effective today, anyone working "unapproved OT" will be CHARGED WITH THEFT!

I know of one nurse that put in her two weeks notice at the end of the meeting. I am in my first 3 month probationary period.....and not sure I will go back on Monday. Aside from the patient load, documentation (charting), processing new orders that came in during the 2nd med pass (meaning you can't get to them until end of shift)....etc....we were also told that when there is only one RN in the building, SHE is responsible for anything that happens in the facility, including the acute/sub-acute side - where we did not "accept" those patients nor do we know anything about them. We don't go to that section during shift. We now must also be able to say what room our CNAs are in at a given moment (good luck with that).

During the meeting, the acute side's ADON suggested that since it is our license on the line, we would be wise to clock out and still do documentation (all the while saying the the DON, sitting at the head of the table, 'isn't hearing this'...). I mentioned that if something then happened to us, while off the clock, the facility would then say we were violating corporate policy and we would not be covered!

Sorry folks, we need to stand up to this. I WILL NOT do this. I don't work for free. I will not leave my life, safety, or license on the line for this.

Stick a fork in me......I'm done! :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

CEO needs a psych consult....:D

All nurses need to stand up against this practice. We allow the management to walk all over us collectively when one of us clocks out and gets abused for free.

It is illegal to ask you to clock and still work I worked for a LTC that said I as PM Supervisor would be penalized if PM staff worked late I would have to get their work done I quit Some people still clock out there from day shift and stay till 5pm because they are scared to lose their jobs STICK UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS

Not just NO but H*LL, NO!!!

Perfectly fine for them to steal from us! Whatever.

A few months ago we were told that we were not to stay beyond 15 minutes over per shift without approval. Of course with our patient load we stay a minimum of 15 min beyond that. Usually we stay 45 minutes, and sometimes up to 2 hours beyond that.

Being a new nurse I asked others what they did when they had to stay late to finish charting. I was told just to clock out and then chart so you wouldn't get in trouble. H*&^ to the NO.

I started cutting out things that were non patient related. When they called me on it I explained that I couldn't stay late and there were only so many hours in a shift. I then got approval to stay as late as I needed.

Let the Labor Board get wind of this...copy of the policy mailed anonymously ????

Awful --.-- Do you have a union in this facility?

Threatening that you'll be charged with theft is the most disgraceful thing I've heard. It's vertical bullying and not only are they crushing staff morale but they're endangering patient care as some nurses may take immeasurable amounts of shortcuts just to get everything done if you had an crazy shift and HAD to clock out no matter what.

Have you considered finding another facility? Easier said then done considering the economy right now.

Seems to me that the only illegal activity is being perpetrated by the powers that be. Charge me with theft while encouraging me to work over without pay! If any place where I worked tried this BS, they would be reported to every newspaper, state and federal agencies, local law makers, and anyone that I could find to listen. I would even picket in front of the establishment. If the Klu Kux has a right to demonstrate, so does the angry nurse.

I would report them so fast. Can you say illegal!

Tell them if they dont want you working late, hire more nurses. See what their smug arrogant ass will say to that.
