Hello there, I am new here to this forum. I happened upon all of you by a search I did in google. I am currently in the CAT Brandywine Program in Chester County. I graduate in April 2008. I am so honored to be taught by the wonderful nurses there and can't say enough great things about them! They are so dedicated and truly work hard to turn out LPN's they can be proud of. I just am so frustrated because I can't seem to find a spot that I fit into in the work place. I do not want to do geriatric care at all. I love children and had hoped to do peds or start in working in Med/Surg. I am currently at CCH - West Chester, PA on my clinical rotation in Med/Surg floor. I enjoy the work there and it is so diversified that the days fly by. Going into this profession has been truly a gift from God for me. Being a widow and having my children raised I now have an ever expanding career to be proud of. :) Please could someone tell me how I can get into hospital work after I graduate from LPN school ? I plan on working week-ends and continue on with my education for RN either at Brandywine School of Nursing or Immaculata. I currently live in Thorndale, Pennsylvania. I have looked on the web at CHOP in Center City and Fox Chase Cancer Center. Thank you.........

You should be very proud of yourself...don't worry, you will find a place to fit in.

Specializes in Jack of all trades, and still learning.

Best of luck Nursiegurl. Maybe if you just ring around the various hospitals to find what the opportunities are. Or you could join an agency. Is it essential in the US to do a grad year beforehand?

Start now and try and get a pt job in a hospital. Even if it is a non medical position. Transition in this status is easier. You will find your nitche before ya know it. Good luck and enjoy the ride!

I'm in LPN school and I got a job as a nursing assistant in the hospital. I don't want to do LTC because it breaks my heart too much. When I was interviewed, the nurse recruter told me in no uncertain terms that not only will they keep me on after I get my LPN, they will pay for me to get my RN. All of the nursing assistants on my floor are nursing students. This is a wonderful way to get your foot in the door for when you get your LPN.

Good luck! ;)

I would feel frustrated too! Hang in there and keep focused on the direction you want to go-- things will fall in to place in time!

Thank you so much for all the wonderful and special advice! I will try and get a job then as a floor tech. That is excellent advice. I can do week-ends and work on doing the vitals and then transition in to the floor. I especially want to get my RN as well. Have the bestest Thanksgiving to all of you here !! Hugzzz, me in PA
