Freaked me OUT!!!!!!!!

Okay this scared the heck out of me! I had a 15 year old pt, and he had some friends in the room who had just seen the new movie Jacka**".

These kids were totally ADDICTED to this stuff! They were asking me questions about the medical probelms associated with things they wanted to try, including some very dangerous stuff! I gave them a lecture on consequences of actions basically (but I did it rather cool...I know these kids will do this stuff regardless), and reminded them that the actors have medical on scene and money to pay for mishaps at whatever hospital they wish!

These kids wanted to swallow a condom with a goldfish in it to see if it would survive, staple a certain male body part to their inner thighs (guess this is called a butterfly...ewwwwwww!), wanted the hemovac drain (the pt had) so they could drain their own blood and drink it..all this on camera! It freaked me out!

Worse of all...the mother of the patient was there and didn't look shocked or wasn't really telling them not to (not in my presence anyway...so she may have).

Not to mention these kids were taping all the stuff going on in the room (not outside the room) like foley draining, hemovac draining, IV's...and the pt wanted this! I heard from a CNA they wanted to spray the blood from the hemovac on someone afraid of blood in the room! They were asked to leave, and they did with no issues.

My CNA also told me they asked the same questions to him! UHGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!

I just can't fathom people being so absolutely stupid...I know they are out there, but my GOD to see it in real life at such a young age...I was really freaked and sad!

Anyone else have experience with this or have any answers to what should be done? I know these movies make a point of saying NOT to do this stuff...but...obviously that doesn't concern younger folks that have no appreciation of their bodies or minds!

Sorta proves the point that judgement is not fully developed until over 20 years of age, doesn't it?

As far as stapling the male body part- I would point out that it could easily get infected and have to be surgically removed!! I think even adolescent males would really rather keep that body part.

When I'm dealing with adolescents I tend to heavily emphasize the risks of certain things.

In the end, though, it goes back to their lack of the ability to really see the consequences of their actions.

TOTALLY! Oh my I said to the boy that asked about the stapling..."only if you want them removed once they turn black!" and told him about the vascular system there, and the major arteries in the leg! He had no clue that when you poke an artery you can bleed out! But I think it was the fact that when I told him about 'what can turn black' and that that would hinder bloodflow to another very favorable area of his anatomy making it not work so well....I think that convienced him! LOL!

Man...it still scares me! How totally stupid!!!!!!!!

Think of it this way: since these blokes are too stupid to live, their chances of passing on their defective DNA to the next generation is small. Gene pool way too shallow.

Darwin was right. Natural selection will eventually take care of it!

Wow, crazy crazy crazy.

I am soooo ashamed to admit this ladies....but my husband and I went to see one of the characters from that show at a "ahem" er bar that he was appearing. We thoguht it might be funny. We should have known better than to expect ANYthing at all closely resembling acceptable human behavior from someone who tattoos a lifesize portrait of himself on his back. Anyway, This particular person became so intoxicated, rude and obnoxious it was embarrassing to even witness. I can think of many unacceptable descriptors and slang appropriate for this situation/person. The bad thing is that this aura of personality was there even before he was so intoxicated.

Our son wanted the guys autograph and we got it. But when we took it home and gave it to him we told him the story and how this person acted and how disrespectful he was and our son burned his autograph and said how "uncool" he was. Fortunate for us, our son didn't think he was such a great idol after that. Previous to that I had feared having to make many visits to the hospital because of this person's influence on our son (adolescents and teens in general).

Kudos for you asking these folks to leave and trying to explain how dangerous the situations could be. If more people meet him in real life they might not be say akin to admiring him.

unfortunately, it won't happen soon enough.....

my husband had an "interesting" idea....one that would probably offend most people but you would have to know my husband... (engineering type, not medical).... anyway, his idea is to iq test everyone and for everyone who scrores below 100 to offer them $10,000 for every point below the 100 in exchange for permanent sterilization. he says it would save a lot of money and improve the gene pool...
