Fast rising fever

  1. Hey all!
I took a nap this afternoon feeling fine when I lied down and after about 2 hours I woke up freezing cold and having chills. I had to put to pairs of pants on, two long sleeve shirts, and two pairs of socks on and I was still extremely cold. I checked my temperature and it was 99.9○f and I felt awful. I then took zinc and drank a bottle of water and went out to eat with my family. I was incredibly cold (still in two layers) in the restaurant and everyone else was comfortable in the environment. When I got to the car I took my temperature again and it had risen to 100.8 and I took motrin (prescription 800 mg) I got home and laid down for about an hour and a half and I just took my temperature again and it jumped to 101.4. I'm so sick and I have the worst headache of my life, my neck lymph nodes hurt and my body aches are terrible. I just took more motrin 600. I'll wait and see. If my fever does not go down or gets worse. What should I do?

Consult your doctor, we can't give medical advice on here.

You shouldn't be taking Motrin at high doses like that more than often than every 6-8 hours. If Motrin doesn't work, try extra strength Tylenol. Seek medical advice if your headache is not going away. Make sure to do self care activities that can prevent headaches such as drinking enough fluids, eating, and sleeping.

If you have any other signs or symptoms of meningitis such as neck pain/stiffness or changed in mental status go to the ER ASAP.

Consult your doctor ASAP... sounds like you need interventions that this site can not give you.

    Best wishes

Are you on this site in the care clinic/er waiting room or...?
If I had a T101+ that wouldn't break with body aches, general malaise and a cold sweat, I wouldnt be chilling at home, waiting for death ans replies on a message board. That's just me, though.

We can't and aren't allowed to assess, triage or make recommendations based on symptoms from an anonymous person on an online forum.

As other posters have said, consult your doctor as soon as possible.

I will offer one piece of advice to you and anyone else out there. Always respect the manufacturer recommended (or with prescriptions, prescribed) dosages and time intervals between doses when taking OTC (or any other) medications. They exist for a reason. With ibuprofen (Motrin), it's to prevent harm to your kidneys.

Just because a medication is sold over the counter, doesn't mean that they are without risk.

Understand that we can't make specific recommendations for you as we have no insight into your medical history. I can't even in good conscience recommend the OTC drug paracetamol/acetaminophen, like for example; Tylenol, since I have no idea about your liver function. You need to consult your healthcare provider.

As mentioned by the members we can not offer medical advice. You really need to discuss this with your own doctor.
