No facial piercings (including tongue) allowed at my facility or by either of he two nursing schools that bring clinical students to our facility. Some nurses have covered thair eyebrow piercings with a band-aid but that looks pretty nasty.
Good luck in school! I think the "professional" appearance is as much for the patients' ease and comfort as it is with meeting the schools dress code requirements.
We allow our students piercings, hey why not? Earlobes have been pierced for years already, never noticed an earrring falling into an open mouth of a patient, so why should the others bother?
Infektion? why should the nose or eyebrowpiercing be more infected in nursingstudents as in other people?
So, we allow it, same with tattoos, although it depends on the tattoo though, once had a student with a big, ugly skull on her upperarm, I told her to put a bandaid over that one, but that's it.
The other thing is, I don't like facepiercings at all, but hey, that is my problem.
In our classes we weren't allowed to have them either. Some folks did anyway though.
I guess it's all right, but I don't thnk they should be allowed in LTC where some people there are confused and upset anyway, then to see someone come their way with pierced eyebrows and tongues and lips and noses....just a bit much, I say.
