Doctors versus Guns

My aunt sent me this, and I thought it was funny.

>A little something to ponder over...

>a. The number of physicians in the US is 700,000.

>b. Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year is 120,000.

>c. Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171. (US Dept.of Health & Human Services)

>

>Then think about this:

>a. The number of gun owners in the US is 80,000,000 (yes, eighty-million!).

>b. The number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups) is 1,500.

>c. The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .0000188.

>

>Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

>

>FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

>

>Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets out of hand. As a public health measure I have withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear that the shock could cause people to seek medical attention.

I feel this thread is so much of the same old- same old- I, DO NOT see the logic that a gun is a "tool". But that is me. I think a gun is a weapon, it is made to be a weapon, it is a weapon and that is it's one and only purpose.

Trying to make an argument that a car or a hammer are in the same catagory...in my opinion...... is stupid and totally ignorant of the facts.

THis is my opinion. Others, many others, feel guns are useful household items. I don't.

I am aware that this thread was started in a "joke" fashion, and I just did not think it was funny..... trying to make light of this serious issue is not funny.......in my opinion. I know that since my original post, some people have tried to find humour still in the subject, this seems to be a way for some to approach this subject and feel good about it.

Again, I don't. But like everyone else, I am entitled to my opinion.

When used to bring down a deer or wild boar, is it still a weapon? A tool is a device or machine designed to facilitate manual work or task.

A gun is no more than a machine designed to guide a projectile. If you hunt with it, you are bringing down game much more efficiently than digging a hole and driving the game into that hole.

If you don't see the connection with a car or hammer, you should pay a little more attention to how murders tend to be commited. Many people also use guns to save their lives, and that of others. I have never done this, but I do know personally of several incidents where this is true (I was the paramedic on scene at two of them.)

btw, far more die by cars than by guns. They may not intentionally kill with their cars, but hey, thats an accidental death just as sure as an irresponsible shooting that takes a life. Car crashes are very rarely due to mechanical failure, but to human misjudgement or irresponsibility.

I would say that I am likely to be far more versed in firearms than you are, just based on your base dislike of them, and my familiarity stems from personal experience which spans many years, not from some anti-gun rag. I do NOT appreciate being called (indirectly) STUPID or TOTALLY IGNORANT of the facts.

I do not know (nor do I care) about Canadian gun laws. I suspect they are more strict than here. I DO know that wherever concealed/carry laws are enacted, violent crime falls dramatically (not just a 1 or 2 percent), and this has happened w/o fail. I also know that where gun control laws are stepped up, the crime rates rise with it.

Guns are here. In USA, they are an integral part of our history and culture, and just banning or restricting them out of the hands of law-abiding citizens will not make it a safer place to be.

You DO NOT want to turn this into a gun issue, trust me on this. I'd suggest we drop the subject.

Anybody else thinking WTF!

Boring. Same old same old.

I agree it is boring....

but....... I have my own opinions on guns and what they are used for.

They are my views and I will never agree with many on this board regarding guns and their use of guns.

I do not shy away from the subject. I would love to debate others if I had the time and others had the interest.

Allright..debate via PM if you feel it is that important to argue, and have no hope of swaying the other person....................... I can tell both of you from experience you are pi$$ing into the wind!

or else,

I will start a seperate thread on: masturbating moms breast feeding their 8 year old children before picking up their guns and making a trip to the nearest abortion clinic, to use the tool (evil, or not) to stop the anti's or the pro-lifers (whatever you choose).

bob

Orininal post:

Very funny!

Subsequent gun debate:

Very tiresome!

good lord, certainly we have more going on in our lives than such useless debate. I think it's time to enjoy the joke for what it was (or get a sense of humor) and just move on already. sheesh. that was not the intent of this thread. yet SOMEONE always has to turn it that way. So predictable. (yawn).

Exactly! I was a JOKE!

well if we are going to start the "debate via pm, count me in, I am sick and tired of whiny people messing with my right to keep and bear arms. If you don't like the 2nd amendment, there are plenty of planes at the airport leaving foranother country that is not so great as ours. USA love it or get the **** out.

Not everyone on this board is from the USA, pal.

Yes.. I am already the #### out, as you so eliqently put it. But I can still have an opinion on guns........

I have no interest in PM'ing anyone about anything.

I do believe I have the right to say what I think about a subject, but as I perdicted in an earlier post, people get VERY anxious and upset when talking about guns and their use.

And by the way, I still think comparing a hammer and a gun is silly. No matter who tries to make the argument.
