Doctor oriented hospital

A doctor oriented hospital believes they exist for the physicains and not for the patient. They believe the patients are there for medical care and not nursing care. They tend to devalue the nursing staff. They spend a great deal on the medical staff than on other needs.:angryfire There are some that are better than others but many physican oriented hosopitals are that way because the docs are on the Board of directors and in administrative positions. The get and keep a great deal of control.

Maybe the nurses should take a walk and let the doctors "do it all". :chuckle Lets see how long that would last.

Come on. It is first last and always the money. Read the literature from social medicine counttries, a completely different world. If the doctors make the hospitals money, they are in charge, they dont, we are. End of story. There is a hospital like that down the street from me. I took my son there when he broke his arms. I drove up to the ER door and took him in but I had to move my car immediately. ALL the parking spots were for doctors, not some or most, all. I had to park in the outer lots and walk back, not a big deal to me, but what about the old patients who have a very difficlut time walking. There my son was the pateint and I wrote a long letter to the hospital. It has since changed, I am sure there were many complaints. Hosptials know we make them the money, but we dont stick together.

You know, this thing about doctors reserving for themselves the best spots... don't they know that it's healthier for them to park further away and walk? Unless of course there's a real emergency but you can keep a few spaces open for emergency use only.

yea probably right. I just felt it was kinda trivial for me to mention it, yet it is a clear symptom of a doctor oriented hospital.

it's only trivial if it does not matter. making people walk a 2 city block path to get a sick kid seen is not trivial for some.

when i graduated nsg school, i got a job offer at my alma mater's hospital. knowing it was completely physician-oriented, i declined to work there in spite of top-notch wages and being known as the hospital where the boston celtics went, to get their injuries treated. i just couldn't imagine working in a place that didn't support its' nurses. if i hear that a facility is physician-oriented, go running the other way!
