Do you ever check yourself?

One thing I love about working at a hospital is that I can check my own vitals, and with the modern equipment, its quick and easy.

Does anyone check their vitals everyday like I do? Like BP, and pulse and O2 levels? I notice my heart rate is always highest in the morning and tapers offas the day wears on, even when I am really busy.

Has anyone ever listened to their heart with the Doppler? I put it on my apical pulse spot today and heard all 4 chambers. I almost died.

I want to see my bladder with that bladder ultra sound.

Has anyone ever given themselves an ultra sound?

What I would love is to see my own heart with the echo cardiograph and ultraSOUND. I'm sure someone must be as curious as me. Help me not to feel bad. What tests have you done on yourself?

I used to take a very proactive role and check my "stats" all the time

checked my BP every day for three weeks to see if there were any trends, there sure were, can we say hypotension maximus? :)

(almost passed out in the drugstore while waiting on a script I thought I would be lil miss layperson and stick my arm in the cuff, well the pharmacist came running over when the alarm beeped and my BP was revealed at 78/48 - now I know those machines are innacurate but at my latest rheumatologists visit he charted my BP as 80/50

that could explain the dizzyness

or maybe it was the fact that I'm also hypoglycemic pretty much all the time, that finger prick hurts like a son of a - I always psyche myself out with the lancet , I'll get really close to doing it and then I just cant!

sometimes I do an O2 sat when I'm feeling SOB etc

and since I'm always tachycardic I do a pulse check now and again too

I have obtained copies of my bloodwork from the doctors office for my own educational purposes

and I will never ever do that again.....

sometimes its nice to not know these things!

There are some strange answers here in this one, but of them all I worry about you mario. Remind me to say another prayer for your little self

I stopped checking my own VS. At home my norms would be BP 120's-130's/70's. HR 60-70's. I am athletic...tennis, backpacker, swimmer. Heart is in great shape.

At work is a different story...140-150/90's, HR 90-110!!!!!

One time I put on the sat clip and was horrified that my heart rate was 130! Another nurse walked by and immediately made me sit down while she placed me on the zoll.....it was just sinus tach. But geesh...I'll drive myself nuts constantly checking myself.

I'm a reformed self checker. Besides monthly breast exams I only check my BP once in awhile...at home.

gosh last thing i would do is check my b/p at work? bound to be a bit high, lol. and blood sugars? when iwas pg, i had "borderline gest DM" which i controlled by diet. i used to spot check my sugars at work before the machines were coded to charge patients hospital record numbers. nowadays, cannot do that. oh well.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the title of this thread was monthly breast exams for women, and testicluar exams for men... LOL. Poor Mario, always thinking.

I do'nt have to worry about trying to do procedures on myself, docs keep doing them FOR me! in the past 14 months, I've had 8-10 CT scans, 5 MRI's, 3 ultrasounds, an LP under flouroscopy, 2 surgeries, and so much labwork, they now have a permanent scar to aim for in my AC. LOL I'd be MORE than happy to pass on some of these procedures to you, Mario!!! psst, you can have the co-pays, too...hehe

You would be a clinical trial co-ordinator's dream subject! Clinical trials often need healthy volunteers as control subjects. I have had MRI's and bone densities in the name of research, didn't hurt, learned something new and contributed to science all in one. :)

yeah..'bout drove myself crazy checking my temp at work a few months ago..

didn't feel so good one night, so checked my temp..102.6 tympanic...

well, long story short and hundreds of tympanic checks with the therm's at work,..

I always read high on the tympanics at work, but not the one at home or in my doc's office..the tympanics at work don't correlate with axillary or oral at work either...

go figure

soooo, i've quit checkin' myself @ work!

I checked my vitals as well. And even check the mucos membrane of the pupil and also I checked the haemoglobin level as to be sure.

The last time 5 years when i was pregnant, we had an ultrasound and I used it to check how the baby lie is it oblique or longtitudinal, head first or breech.

I was with another nurse once and put the probe in my abdomen while standing and the nurse streak with laughter and was very curious to see the baby's heart beating and see it moving and try to check if it's a girl or boy and we detected that it's female.:D

Coming from a mosquito country hahahha(high malaria rate) I used to check if the spleen is palpable as well.

:p

not that this was a planned thing, but once i knew I was not going to lose my eyesight with my dx of acute narrow angle glaucoma....

I was so interested in what my actual perception of my vision was and to what the actual visual fields and the actual pressure of my eyes were.....and are..........

science is such a cool thing..............

duhhhhhhh' ..........do i sound twelve here.....

science is such a cool thing.......

mario

you're rather....................different........, aren't you. :uhoh21:
