Do you ever check yourself?

One thing I love about working at a hospital is that I can check my own vitals, and with the modern equipment, its quick and easy.

Does anyone check their vitals everyday like I do? Like BP, and pulse and O2 levels? I notice my heart rate is always highest in the morning and tapers offas the day wears on, even when I am really busy.

Has anyone ever listened to their heart with the Doppler? I put it on my apical pulse spot today and heard all 4 chambers. I almost died.

I want to see my bladder with that bladder ultra sound.

Has anyone ever given themselves an ultra sound?

What I would love is to see my own heart with the echo cardiograph and ultraSOUND. I'm sure someone must be as curious as me. Help me not to feel bad. What tests have you done on yourself?

When I first read this thread "Do you check yourself" I took it as checking for cervical dilation. I am an OB nurse so you have to forgive me.

And in answer to that question, no, I haven't done a vag check on myself, but could reasonably conclude that I am closed, thick and high!!

along the same line....my initial reaction was "huh? you mean like sniff your armpit check?"

ive never checked my glucose... hmmm.... I might do that tonight it I can figure out how to do it without a patient number.

We use a wrist monitor for B/Ps so sometimes do a QA check on myself. Have scanned my bladder with both a scanner and an ultrasound. Renal ultrasounds are part of our job so the nurses have practiced on each other during training. Mario it seems you have an interest in diagnostics maybe you should consider specializing?!

Given I work at a state pscyh hospital (funds low, behind in technology), I haven't used too much equipment. I guess I could say that I've checked my mental state a couple of times. Results sometimes scary.:)

Once, during a verrrryy slow night while working CVU, my coworkers and I hemocculted our stools. (did I really type that?):imbar

EEEEEWWWWW!!! :chuckle

I don't have cool toys like that where I work. Can I come visit you and play?

For a while there, I was dipstick-UA just about every void. It was making me crazy!

I've used floor stock tests before - guiac, etc. I feel like I probably ought to replace that one bottle of UA dipsticks just to be fair.

Scale and BP cuffs and stuff like that - of course!

This could be fun.....

We could all check at the end of shift and compete for the " I Can't Believe it Didnt Burst" award !!!! Highest volume wins!

There could be catagories for day and night shifts, 8 hour, 10 hour, and 12 hour shifts, and special achievement awards for home health bumpy road stuck in traffic jam nurses.

I see a TV special in the works here........

:roll

I don't chek everyday....i was wrong.....more like once a week, but i get on the O2 sat monitor everyday. I like hearing the alarm go off when I wear it. They say it's because my heart is healthy that is slow....so why the alarm ( I know).

i WOULD LOVE TO HAVE BLOOD WORK DONE, AND SEE ALL THE CHEMICAL BREak down. I'd pay close attention to my own bllod work results. I envy the person who said they had their own Guiac done, that is cool.

My heart is magic, but id like to unravel it by wearing once of those 5 leads that can record data for 24 hours. I am still perplexed by a squeaking heart in the morning, and NO ONE apparenly has a morning squeak so I am scared of that. Not really...just wondering what that is.

My fantasy wish is for someone to let me stay in the sleep lab overnight hooked up to all the leads I could be hooked to. To be woken up by the echo-cardiologist whod do an ultra sound and doppler right on the spot as soon as I wake up.

the premie baby story with the bp on the finger is amazing.

We have a great doppler at our unit, not a hand held one, but one that is like a pen connected to a wheeled unit. I really dropped dead when I put that right on my hear, and with every beat, I could hear 4 distinct sounds.

All this thanks to the wonderful NURSES I work with who nurture me and take the time to explain things to me.

I took my cbg twice so far, both times it was in the 80's. I pop PT's fingers left and right, but let me tell you, I flinch like a scared flamingo when I do it to myself.

my lung capacity is 4 liters exactly, so I am a little man, as you can imagine.

Thank you everyone for chiming in here. I still wanna know if anyone has even done a CT or Cat scan just for the hell of it on themselves.
