Hi All,

I worked at a hospital as an aide for 1 year and a half while in school. I quit this job my last semester of school to concentrate on school. I gave a two week notice and left on good terms.

I interviewed for a RN position last week and found out today I did not get hired. I was wondering if all went smoothly with my 2 week notice and if I was not entered as a quit without notice by the human resource department.

I have had problems in the past with paperwork through HR. I wonder if I should call HR and if they would give me that information. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry you didn't get the job. With the current economy more likely its places choosing to be picky with who they hire. If you were on their do not hire list you most likely would not have even got to the interview stage. I would see if you could speak to the interviewing manager if anyone.

Hi Rif

Thank you for replying. Do you think it would be inappropriate to ask the manager I interviewed with why I did not get the position? I would like to know so I do not make the same mistakes on other interviews, but then on the other hand, I do not want to put this woman on the spot.

Absolutely it would not be inappropriate. You did them a favor by expressing an interest and taking the time of applying to work there. Asking for an honest explanation as to why you were not hired is certainly not unreasonable. Besides, what are they going to do, NOT hire you?

I went on 4 interviews before being hired. Maybe it wasn't meant to be. Don't sweat it. It will happen. You can ask why you didn't get hired for your own educational purposes just make sure you do it in a non-confrontational way.

I didn't get hired at the place I used to work.... but did at another hospital and actually prefer the job and hospital I'm at now.

As a new grad myself, I have found that most hospitals prefer experienced nurses when seeking employees. Maybe it had nothing to do with your past experiences at that hospital.

I agree with all the other replies but if you still felt like you had to know, you can always pay a reference checking service to call your old position. Many times they cannot provide much information but a standard question to be asked is if you are eligible for rehire and many places will answer that. You should be able to get it done for $50-60 if it is that important to you.

I worked at a nursing home as an aide 13 years ago and left in good standing.

Even now, they absolutely will not hire me back.

Just as well. I won't dwell on it.

On second thought, I always thought it was funny that they asked if you were eligible for rehire. To me, that's only part of it. Isn't the other half if you, the employee, would consider going back? :D

Also it may not be that the hospital in not willing to re hire it may be a particular department. One other thing that goes in to a decision of this type it they often ask your old coworkers about you. There are posts here about that as well, fair or not sometimes it only takes one person who doesn't like someone to keep one from being hired.

I had this happen to me. I resigned from a postion where the (was not a nurse at the time) manager was more interested in me being social with her than my work ethics. Well when I became a nurse I couldn't understand why I kept being told via email we went with other candidates...I am not use to receiving these type of replies. Well to make a long story short I was in the system as ineligible for rehire. After finally getting someone who was willing to be honest and help me. It was determined that it was obviously a mistake and it was removed. Had I not acted on my gut feeling (first hr rep did not tell me about the ineligible for rehire) it would probably have been in the system and I would not have had the opportunity to work at a different hosptial but under the same company.
