Too many jobs I would find something or do registry until they call you.
The good thing about being a nurse you do have options.

I know I could not wait. Can you pick up some per diem in home health or agency?

You could call and ask for the paperwork for your physical etc and get that out of the way, if you need to. If you need agency work, PM me. The agency I just signed up for works pretty fast if you have a physical within a year and 2 step TB. I am near Pgh.

When you said you applied, did you get the position or are you still waiting to hear on that? If you didn't hear yet, you need to look for something else now. If you did and you have been hired ( :) congratulations!), I would check with cargal, that seems like a good idea.
Good luck!

Most likely they have already spent their 2002 budget and can't hire more people until the 2003 budget begins. But that is no reason for you to wait.
Look for something else. If you find something you like better, stay with it. If you find something that you don't like better, do it until January when these people call you, then take THAT job. Give yourself the maximum number of options.
Nobody else will be looking out for YOUR interests except YOU.
