i went to see u2 last night and bono dedicated a song, miracle drug, from their new album to everyone in the medical field. he said, "our doctors, our nurses, everyone. while this is for the doctors, it's especially to the ones that work the hardest, our nurses."
everyone cheered and it was just a good feeling. although i am just a nursing student, i yelled my heart out for all of you that are working the hardest- our nurses. :yelclap:
I don't see where the comment on its' face was "political" in the least. Please someone explain the political statement that he was making? I also did not see anything "holier than thou" about about said statement.
No, the statement he made in itself is not political, but the plight of nurses has become extremely political. Bono is viewed as having strong political influence, even though he is "just" an artist. Thus, hearing these words from him is really nice as it means more and has more of a social impact coming from someone I beleive at least understands the nursing situation, rather than say, Brittany, (never said anything about nurses one way or the other, but good example), who knows little of anything.
That means that the vast majority of our legislature has no right to discuss /have an opinion (and rule!) on anything other than what they majored in college or worked at IRL.
Sorry, but most of us have more than one thing that we do in our life. Just because one is famous at one thing, does not negate one's other interests in life.

Awesome! Very well put!
I love Bono and am going to see him November 16th and I can't wait.
I am so jealous! I have been listening to U2 all of my life! Have extra fun for me too, would 'ya? I wish I could go. Gotta love Bono! Just the televised concerts are incredible - I would love to be there in person! I have seen him speak on some of the work he has done in third-world countries as well, he and his wife are truly incredible people!
Bono and his wife Ali Hewson (of Chernobyl Kids fame) are two fantastic humanitarian and politically astute people who highlight the plight of people who otherwise would never be heard. They confront the powerful decision makers with the consequences of both their actions and inactions. Bono is also a darn good singer. Sadly on nurses salary,I can only just afford concert tickets, but the phone bill following spending two days on hold trying to get my hands on aforementioned concerts has meant that I will have to content myself with listening to their CD's til I become Matron of St. Anywhere!! Happy listening folks.
