Bono praises nurses

Published

i went to see u2 last night and bono dedicated a song, miracle drug, from their new album to everyone in the medical field. he said, "our doctors, our nurses, everyone. while this is for the doctors, it's especially to the ones that work the hardest, our nurses."

everyone cheered and it was just a good feeling. although i am just a nursing student, i yelled my heart out for all of you that are working the hardest- our nurses. :yelclap:

wow....didn't know there were so many bono worshipers in nursing...

:nurse: Nurses are awesome and the recognition from the public, famous or not is important to keep nursing in the foreground. We need to draw in new resources for nursing and Bono just put us in the field of vision for many who are still trying to decide what path to take towards the work-a-day world. The youth might be encouraged to look at nursing. Thank you to Bono for all his efforts on behalf of humanity.

I don't "worship" the man. I praise his good acts/deeds. AND I do like the music.

I'll get flamed for this, but until Bono gives away all of his money and lives like the rest of us, while doing humanitarian work, I'm not too interested in what he has to say. He's said many negative things about the US while reaping the benefits of his many American fans. While I realize that U2 has worked long and hard for their riches, but I get really tired of the rich and famous, once they reach the pinnacle of Maslow's hierarchy, feel the need to tell the rest of us how un-enlightened we are, and then somehow they become somekind of Ghandi/Albert Schweitzer type figure basically because they have the time and the money and the media resources to pick some kind of project. Personally, I was more impressed seeing Harry Connick jr, shirt off spare-tire showing, wading through sewer water to rescue people (in NO), and telling the media to "@@@@, and go film something else." There's many stars that quietly do good, even great deeds, without the need for "face" time and the praise that comes with it. How many anonymous people toil ceaselessly for a better world, and really know, really experience the realities of peoples' lives do so without the need for praise. Sorry, but sometimes I get so tired of people deifying these celebrities, I am not saying that they don't do good, but geez, they are no better than anyone else trying to better the world......

Bono has always embraced Americans while pointing out things our government could improve on. I support 100% his criticism of America, because as a free person I'm fairly critical of our administration as well.

Harry Connick Jr. was very critical of the American government while rolling up his sleeves. His anger at Bush and FEMA was palpable.

Bono, isn't Jesus about to give up all his wealth for mankind. But I think he's better than the Paris Hilton's of the celebrity world.

No flame, you're certainly entitled to your well-thought out opinion. :)

amen Tweety.

I was also at the Dallas show (section 116) and I was delighted to hear him give kudos to nurses. If you haven't been to a U2 show, I encourage you to go, it's an experience you will never forget (this was my 3rd). Since Day One, U2 has always been involved and have written songs on social issues (Pride,MLK,Sunday Bloody Sunday,Peace on Earth,Walk On,Please,etc..) they've been doing that long before it was fashionable for musicians/celebs to do so. Shortly after they got married, Bono and his wife spent time helping out in Bosnian refugee camps. His wife heads a foundation for the children of Chernobyl and he has been key with his DATA organization getting first world countries to pardon the debts owed by third world countries. The ONE project, also headed by him, is about getting rid of extreme poverty worldwide. He single handedly has done more to better peoples lives in a short time than what most celebs do in a lifetime. He is one of the few musicians who walks the walk and talks the talk. He helps others long after the media exposure, most celebs lend a hand 'cuz they know the media is there.

As far as their relationship with the US goes, the band has always had a 'love-hate' relationship ever since they first hit US soil some 25 yrs ago. They love their American fans and the concept of the American Dream, but there are some things about the US that they can do without. They are certainly entitled to their opinion and I happen to agree with them.

Go Bono. Praise from someone like him, regardless of his day job, is appreciated by this nurse.

My thoughts exactly, no matter whatever negative words other people might post about him, the band or what he said!!! I love U2!!! And I'm really glad he recognized nurses as working the hardest. I wish I could have seen them in concert this year, but it just didn't work out. *sigh*

Not afraid to die, not afraid to live, and when I'm flat on my back, I hope to feel like I did... (U2, Kite)

I would have to agree with you!! U2 is the best!! I didn't get to see them this year, but I herd from U2.com that they are suppose to be having a new set of shows coming up. I love the band and have following them since I was a young teenager. I really Love Bono!!
